May 1953

"Happy birthday..." I shiver at the tender kisses being placed on my neck, I feel Peeta pull me closer to his body, I turn in his arms and smile up at him

"Do you have to go to school" I groan and he chuckles

"I'm afraid so, my love. I don't want to go but... I have to" he sighs, I nod before looking at the clock on the nightstand, I smile when I see it's six in the morning

"How long has Lola kept you up?" I grin and he does too

"Since five this morning. She just wanted a cuddle, you looked peaceful and so I gave her a cuddle. She's been asleep ever since" he replies

"You really are an amazing Father. Although, I haven't quite gotten a birthday kiss yet" I say, he connects our lips together with a smile on his face, I run my fingers through his blonde curls, definitely enjoying my morning.

Peeta makes my favourite breakfast and I eat it while Lola feeds. She's two months old and already is showing personality, she does show attachment to Peeta and I though, more so Peeta. She rarely ever goes to anyone but Peeta or I, she knows what it feels like in our arms, I don't blame her for enjoying to be in Peetas strong arms.

The day goes on as usual, I have Lola securely in the wrap that pins her snuggly against my chest while I fold dry washing, humming to the music playing from the radio. I then hear a knock at the door, with a sigh I get up and answer the door, my eyes widen when I see Peeta's Mother.

"Where is Peeta?" She demands

"He's at school. Not that it's any business of yours" I scowl, she looks to the dark head poking out of the wrap and looks at me with a raised eyebrow

"Your child would be much prettier without that god awful completion" she says, I hold Lola close to me, causing her to squirm in her sleep

"Listen. I'm not pregnant, it's going to make it much easier to defend myself against you. Now, if you have nothing else to say, I suggest you leave" I tell her

"That child deserves to be raised right. I will pay you any price. We both know half breed child shouldn't be raised by parents not from the same crowd" she says pulling out her check book

"Get out of here, before I call the authorities" I growl

"Oh please they won't—"

"I think it's best you leave, Rose" I look to see Mr Mellark shutting his car door

"Bran. This isn't of your concern" Mrs Mellark frowns

"It is when you are trying to buy Lola from Katniss. She's my Granddaughter, if you think the authorities won't listen to Katniss, then they most certainly will listen to me" Bran threatens her, with a huff Mrs Mellark walks to her car, Bran joins me in the doorway and we watch Mrs Mellark drive off. I let out a sigh and kiss the top of Lola's head then adjust her little bow headband.

"Thank you, Bran. I was an inch away from hitting that woman" I frown

"Don't mention it, Dear. I should've warned you beforehand. She came into the bakery, telling me that Peeta's Daughter shouldn't be raised with you as her Mother. I said the complete opposite" he says leading me to the dining table

"I was going to come here anyway. Peeta called earlier for me to bring you these. Birthday lunch from him" he adds with a chuckle placing the warm bag of cheese buns on the table, I smile and immediately dig in to the food

"I'm not surprised" I chuckle after swallowing the bit I had bitten

"That boy really loves his girls. I'm glad he's a good husband" he replies

"He's a good husband because you raised him right" I tell him, causing him to smile

"I'm glad" he replies, I smile in reply.

"I'm so sorry that she said that stuff to you" Peeta sighs, setting my dinner plate in front of me then sitting across from me, feeding Lola a bottle of my breastmilk

"It's fine. Your Dad came in before any major damage could've been done. You both are a lot like each other. Your Dad is a lot more confident since he separated with Rose" I reply

"He certainly did. I knew that they were never happy together. I looked at most parents who were completely in love with each other and their children" Peeta explains

"I didn't see it between my parents. My Mother didn't look at me like she should've. That was when I made a promise. When I have children of my own, I'll love them until the end of time. Endlessly love them" he adds looking down at Lola before looking back up at me

"Well, you've definitely kept your promise to yourself. You remind me a lot of how my Dad was growing up. I asked him once if he wanted boys at all. He told me that he wouldn't have minded it but having Daughters was by far the best part of his life. He loves us endlessly, besides, he has a Son now" I reply and Peeta smiles

"Your Dad is a good man. I'm very fond of him. I just wish that his past wasn't so horrific" Peeta frowns

"I know me too but there isn't much to do other than to move on. That chapter is closed, it has been for a while" I reassure him

"We'll be sure that Lola knows everything about your Dad's culture, everything that was important to them and who she's related to. That she shouldn't be ashamed of her background" Peeta states, I immediately smile at his statement, I'm happy to know that Lola will grow up with the knowledge of the Cherokee tribe and just how important it is in our family.

I smile as I pat Lola's back lightly in bed, since she was born, she's never been able to get to sleep unless she's cuddled with Peeta or I. It's my favourite part of the day, laying in bed next to Peeta, cuddling our Daughter until she sleeps.

"Motherhood suits you. I knew you'd be the perfect Mother for Lola" Peeta smiles and I do to

"I'm already loving it. I'm not ready for her to grow up" I frown

"Neither am I... I want her to stay our little baby forever" he sighs and I do too because I agree with him, I want Lola to be with us forever but we both know that some day... she'll grow into the powerful woman she's meant to be.
