It's been a few days when I hear the phone ring and I barrel downstairs.
I see Jonah answer the phone and I yip.
I try to pull the phone away from him and he lets out a low growl
I back down and pray he doesn't freak out.
I already know it's going to be negative...
What if his wolf wakes up!?
I feel my heartbeat faster and faster until I need to sit down, stumbling as I go.
I lean forward and Jonah puts the phone down, rushing over
He tells me to breathe and I whimper
He pulls me close and I bite his shoulder, unable to calm my wolf down.
"You're okay." He whispers
"Do you hate me?" I frown
"Why? Because you are extremely fertile? Why would I hate that?" He chuckles and my eyes widen.
"I am?" I blurt and he nods
"Yeah, we've only had some issues because you only went through heat once." He chuckles and I grin
"Oops." I smirk and he chuckles
"Yeah, what a shame." He smirks and I giggle
His phone rings and he rises up.
He answers
"Hello?"
I cock my head but he doesn't respond.
"I'm not sure I can-"
He bites his lip and rubs the back of his neck.
"Right, I'll be there."
He sighs and hangs up.
"Where? Jonah you're still healing." I frown
"Big Alpha meeting tomorrow." He rubs his head and I shake my head
"No! You are not going. You can't even stay awake for five hours." I sigh and he frowns
"I tried to get out of it. I can't. It's really important Eden."
"Jonah. Please. Lie, make something up. Say I'm in hospital. Anything!" I whimper
"I can't Eden."
"No, what you can't do is stay awake. You aren't ready to get back to work. Tell your Beta to go." I plead and he frowns
"Clearly you don't understand leadership." He grunts and I frown
"I'm just looking out for you."
"I know, but I have shit to do. This is part of who I am." He snaps and I look down
"Okay."
I'm worried about him,what if he can't do it?
What if he passes out like he did yesterday?
I bite my lip
"Just don't push yourself too much."I sigh and walk outside.
"Eden." He sighs
Jonah PoV:
She just doesn't get it.
It's my job to protect the pack.
I love her but if I have to do this, she can't just tell me not to and the world will stop turning.
I grunt and walk into my office, she's not wrong though. I'm still too weak and work gives me an earsplitting headache.
I should just bail out but I owe it to the pack to do this. It's just a few days.
I groan and when I turn around I hear the door open downstairs.
"Jonah?" Eden calls and I walk down to greet her
"Hey princess." I sigh, still feeling shitty for yelling at her
"I'm sorry I pushed too hard. I get why you have to go. I just, I really don't want to leave you again." She sniffs and I pull her close
"I'm sorry I yelled. I know you're just looking out for me." I say and she looks down, clearly not convinced.
"Right."
"Eden." I frown and she looks up at me, her eyes red and puffy.
She just presses her head into my chest and whimpers
I pick her up and she rests her head in the crook of my neck.
"I can't leave you again." She tightens her grip on me and I kiss her head
"Yes you can, you lived alone for two years. You were completely independent." I chuckle
"Well I love you, way more than I thought I would, I'm used to being with you all the time now, I can't just go back to being alone," she says
"I know that, and you aren't alone, I'm right here. I'll be okay and back before you know it," I coax her and she whimpers
I finally set her down and she pulls herself back into my arms
I feel cold tears soak my shirt and I hold her close
"You'll be okay."
"No." She begs
"Then come with me, you'll be stuck in a room all day but I'll be there for the night." I suggest and she looks up, wiping her eyes
"I'm sorry I'm so emotional today. I guess I'm just really worried about you." She smiles
"But seriously, come with me, clearly you aren't okay." I say and she agrees
"I will."
Eden PoV:
We arrive and I sit in the bedroom.
"Well, Princess, promise me you won't get in trouble." He smiles and I nod
"I promise." I say and he bites his lip
"Right, and if you do-"
"I'll mindlink you Jonah, I'll be fine. I won't even leave the room." I giggle and he nods
"Right," He rubs the back of his neck and I pull his hands away
"Jonah, I'll be okay, you go do pack things. Okay?" I say and he nods
"Okay, just check in with me." He says and I smile
"Of course."
I kiss him swiftly and he hums against me for a moment before he leaves
"Bye Princess."
"Bye."
I'm trying to sleep but my mate hasn't come home.
When he finally gets back I can smell alcohol on him.
I frown and sink into the bed.
"Eden?" He asks and I sit up.
"Hmm?" I grumble
"Sorry if I woke you." He frowns, still standing in the corner.
"You didn't." I say and he walks over.
"Sorry, I had to schmooze some rich fat guy." He grunts and I giggle
"Sounds like you need to relax.." I smirk
"Eden..." He smirks back and I grab his tie, pulling him close to me
"I missed you." I say and he growls, pulling me close and tearing his tie off.
"You're gonna Get it now princess." He snarls in my ear and I grin.
