A name.

A name is something given to you to define who you are. It is something that belongs to you, something that sticks with you until the day you die. Even if someone else has the same name, it doesn't matter because everyone wears their name differently. Everyone is different, so names are different too.

It's funny because. . .

I couldn't remember my name.

"U-um." I was a bit hesitant to tell these complete strangers that I had lost my memory, but if I didn't tell them, they couldn't help.

"I don't. . . know my name."

By this point, I had all three of the boy's attention.

The red guy, who had finally stopped attempting to maim me and had shoved himself away from the Sonic dude, groaned. "Oh, great. We have another Shadow on our hands."

The other two ignored him.

With a concerned look on his face, the Miles boy asked, "Do you remember anything about what your name could be?"

I shook my head. "N-no. Unless my name is 'Blank'." I giggled at my own joke.

Sonic snickered. "If that's the case, then we might have to consider giving you a nickname. 'Blank' doesn't sound like the most creative name out there. And I've heard some pretty weird names."

"Hmm. . . " Miles put a hand to his chin in thought before his baby blue orbs flickered over to the wrench on the floor that I had ditched from earlier. I could literally see the lightbulb go off in his brain. "How about. . . Gadget?"

"Oh, yeah 'cause she's a real tool." The red guy mumbled.

"You're one to talk." Sonic quipped right back with a smirk. It's like he had a whole bunch of one-liners ready to go!

However, I wasn't paying much attention to their petty argument. I was lost in my own thoughts.

Gadget.

Gadget.

I loved it.

But one question lingered in my mind: Why were they helping me? Why were they willing to help a girl with no memory whatsoever? A girl, who I may remind you, that had just attacked someone they knew - I figured they knew the pink girl judging by the Miles boy's reaction when he spotted her - and also tried to harm them!

I was just a stranger, someone that shouldn't have meant much to them. Yet here they were, helping me think of a nickname since I had no recollection of my own name.

Although these pessimistic thoughts floated about in my nearly-empty head, a smile spread across my face.

They were willing to help me. It meant a lot that some people would actual help and cared for me, even if I had no memory of the ones that cared for me before I met these guys.

I let my gaze fall upon the group, a genuine smile gracing my lips. It was my first time smiling since I had first woken up in the crazy doctor's base. It felt like I was smiling for the first time in forever.

The other three - or should I say two considering the red one looked like he didn't even care, but was still paying attention nonetheless - were waiting with anticipation to see what I thought of the new nickname.

"I love it."

"Glad that's settled then!" Sonic's emerald eyes suddenly sparked with excitement, a smirk settling upon his peach muzzle.

"Umm. . . guys?" Miles tentatively asked, gaining my attention as well as the other two boy's. "I hate to interrupt this love story, but we need to check on Amy!"
