chapter fourteen

"ang cheesy niyo talaga," reklamo ni yeji sakin habang nagsha-shopping kami. "nag-surprise yung isa, gaganti rin ang isa."

"remember the golden rule, yeji," i said while grabbing stuff na maaari naming gamitin para sa surprise ko kay jaehyun. well, remember when jaehyun surprised me with that amazing dinner? ngayon, i will surprise him with his very own prom, since he told me he never attended one. ako, masuwerte ako because i got to attend one prom when i was still studying in los angeles, so i kinda know how it works. "may damit ka na?"

of course, my members and jaehyun's members also participated in this surprise. but sabi nila, mas nagustuhan nila 'tong surprise ko because it was actually a surprise of everyone, because it turns out, no one but me attended even just one of their proms. busy sila sa training, at yung iba, hindi pa nakakapag-prom eh nag-debut na. so this is something we're doing for everyone.

we have decided that the theme will be 'awards show' since we're from the entertainment industry. so, just like an awards show, there will be performances. everyone exerted extra effort for this because they all wanted to experience prom, so it's up to me to make everyone feel like they've experienced prom. oh god. 

"meron na. nakaka-excite rin pala," ngiti ni yeji sakin. "anong kulay yung sayo?"

"champagne," i said. "anong neckline nung sayo?"

"halter. keep it simple."

pumunta kami sa counter at binayaran lahat ng binili namin. actually, finishing touches nalang ang ginagawa namin. it takes a great budget for a mock prom, so wgm is sponsoring us in exchange of footage for the show. kaya naman, we were able to hire a celebrity caterer (actually, the show insisted on that). we actually made invitations ourselves, edited by yours truly. there are tickets already inside the invitations. talagang pinaghandaan namin ito kahit isang week lang ang nailaan para sa 'min. the prom will be held tomorrow night, at sobrang excited na ako!

"yeji," tawag ko sa kanya. but before i could tell her what i wanted to tell her, may natanggap akong text mula sa manager ko... and surprisingly, she texted my personal number. 

manager-nim

hey kiddo, blackpink invited your group to their concert for free. come to jyp ent so you could get tickets by 3:30 PM, we leave by 4. 

"what?" tanong niya. 

"huh," i shrugged. "blackpink invited us to their concert... for free."

"for free?" nanlaki ang mga mata niya. "really? why?" i shrugged. "after everything?"

"baka naman peace offering," i guessed. 

"baka nga. but it's still weird. it feels wrong."

"so, this is a blackpink concert," somi commented. "no wonder why they say it's phenomenal," she said as we sat down again. binigyan kami ng blackpink ng vip seating, and until now, i have not figured out why. katatapos lang ang whistle, so susunod na ang solo ni rosé na let it be / you & i / only look at me. 

but then, a familiar song started playing. 

"hey, guys," i brought my attention to the stage to see rosé on the stage, alone. the fans cheered. "i know i usually sing let it be / you & i / only look at me for our concerts, but this time, i want to try something different. this song is very special to me because it reminds me of special memories i have shared with a special person. this is kiss from a rose by seal."
