Clairmont

That woman was hot and cold. I wasn't trying to fraternize, but I was trying to look out after a fellow sister. I get it, she didn't want to talk to me about what she witnessed or what she had been through, but I was damn worried about her mental state. She didn't let anything go, or slip by her, but a tired mind was a disrupted and dangerous mind.

She looked ragged the next morning, even. I didn't ask her, or bother to. She claims I was over stepping, so be it.

Dressed in sports gear, her, Johnson and I were all dressed in Astros gear, and we were all unarmed. Nobody could carry in the stadium. It was strictly an unarmed site but I wouldn't have any issues. I usually never did and nobody was stupid enough to try anything.

At the stadium, we found our respective seats in my reserved section, where only a couple of my higher ups in my company were already there with their wives. "There he is!"

"Finally got yourself a girl, Mason?"

"Corporal Romera, one of my new bodyguards. You know I don't date." I corrected him quickly, avoiding her from lashing out. "Where's everyone else?"

"Oh, Landon's kids got a stomach bug, so he's quarantined for the next 48 hours to make sure he doesn't have one as well, or it's passed, and Garret's wife went into an early labor." I nodded, taking my seat, Romera taking my left, and Johnson perched at the back.

"Do you want anything from Concession?" I asked her, and she shook her head. She already had a thermal bottle full of water and ice. I had Johnson escort me to the stand, since it was fifteen before start time, grabbed a couple of Hot Dogs for everyone, a couple plates of nachos, and brought them down. As the game opened up, they were did something completely different today.

"In honor of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, we ask all of our guests today to please rise in memorial of those who gave their lives that day so we could remain free to this day." It always hurt when they did this. Not that they did this often, but today was a special day, but whenever they played Taps, it tore Every. Single. Soldier to shreds.

One of the few last remaining World War 2 veterans was wheeled in, in his old uniform, and a polished silver Trumpet in hand. The stadium went silent for him immediately and he played it as if he was a young, polished player....

And the sound of that somber song made a tear slide down my cheek. I looked at Romera, who wiped away her own with shaking hands. It never got easier to hear that horn of a fallen soldier. I handed her a couple of napkins, which she took with a quiet thanks.

"Now, please welcome to the field, the team you've been waiting for, your Texas Rangers!"

I couldn't shake the sounds of that trumpet off. All I was seeing was Hade's funeral all over again. But the medication was blocking a breakdown.

As the Astros and Rangers squared off, we got to the fourth inning, and the heat was blasting me to the point I had drained my water, and had it refilled four times. The bathroom was calling.

"Wait up. I'm right behind you." Clairmont called, Johnson following behind us. Once I was good, I waited outside, and Clairmont came out first.

"You okay?" He asked, probably regarding earlier. I just nodded. I wasn't speaking about it. Boundary, and on the clock. "Romera, you can talk to me about it. This whole 'boundary' bullshit would apply if you weren't former military. I'm not trying to hop in your pants." I rolled my eyes. "I know how hard Taps hits you because of who you lost. The other wives in the crowd were bawling their eyes out. While I may have only lost my brothers, you lost everyone and everything. That's why I'm asking. If you need a moment, it's okay." I took a breath.

"You're doubting my mental status, and it's not okay, Scorpio. I'm going to be fine. I forgot today was the Anniversary, everyone is playing Taps at all events in Memorial." Johnson finally came back out. "Let's get back... god knows I'm going to have some weird ass tan lines after today." Even in a tank top and shorts, weird ass tan lines but I had no downtime, so it didn't matter.

By the seventh inning stretch, they had The University of Texas at Arlington's ROTC unit preform the colors, and preform the star spangled banner.

"For all of our men and women who have served, please stand and be recognized today." I didn't usually go to sports events, but this was different... more so than usual.

Whistles and applause came from those who were sitting as little patches of people all over the stadium stood. Clairmont, Johnson, and I were the only ones in this section who were standing.

"And if you served in our special forces, please remain standing." The patches died down to about 5 people. Even Johnson sat down. "We thank all of you who have served, God bless you!" I sat back down as they started their kid's time where they race the mascots, and meet the players.

"Since when do they do this?" I asked him, since he did this more often than I did.

"Every once in awhile. Memorial Day was last month, D-Day today, and Fourth of July is coming up as well. They do it on Veterans Day with football as well." I made a sound of acknowledgement.

And then I saw them whip out the "Kiss Cam"

"Oh dear god..." I groaned, burying my face in my baseball cap. I started on one of his Employees, and his wife, jumping over to someone else, six other couples later, and then a bonus couple at the end....

Me and Him.

Yep. I'm leaving y'all with a cliffhanger. I've been working annoying amounts of hours, and don't appreciate to be bugged about updating my stories. You should know this by now. As stated before, I DO PRIVATE SECURITY!!!! We're NOT allowed on our phones at work, and on my days off, I've been busy as all hell! Dad is NOT doing any better, but he is feeling better. We're still fighting the VA on 110% disability or more due to issues related to Batch One Anthrax Vaccines from Desert Storm he received, issues that have unfortunately passed onto me, and now I'm fighting the government. Our AC broke yesterday, and at 98° in Texas, AND HUMID AS HELL, it was not a fun day. They fixed it this morning, and it dropped to 71° over night. I was better off throwing my bed cover on my truck back and bringing my pillows and a blanket or two outside and sleeping there! But, mosquitoes. No thanks.

I'm working on updates WHEN I CAN. My schedule is a solid 40 so far this week... SO FAR. I don't know if I have to pick up any shifts on Sunday yet or not. We'll see.

Patience is much appreciated!
