It was midnight and Norma was in the living room, laying on the couch, half asleep.
Norma slowly started to drift away until there were two loud knocks on the door. Norma groaned in aggravation as she got up from the couch. She walked to the door and being tired as ever, she didn't care to check who it was. Once the very front door was open, she held her breath and looked at the older man.
"You again?" Norma scoffed, hiding her fear with aggravation.
"I said was coming back," Mr. Romero laughed
"I need you off my property," Norma said
"I'm not leaving. Now, where's my son?" Mr. Romero asked, curtly.
Before Norma could respond, she heard Alex call her name. Mr. Romero smiled and went to push past Norma but she stood her ground.
Alex walked over to Norma and smiled until he saw the man that ruined his life.
"Why are you here?" Alex asked, pushing Norma behind him.
"I came here earlier but your wife refused to let me see you." Mr. Romero responded, looking Norma up and down.
Norma felt sick but stayed behind Alex; she wasn't going to let him stay alone in this situation or any situation for that matter.
"Why in the hell did you want to see me? Why are you even here? You're supposed to be in jail," Alex snapped
"I'm as shocked as you are, Alex. All I know is that some woman bailed me out." Mr. Romero laughed.
Alex rolled his eyes, "What do you need to tell me?"
"Since I'm a free man, I have a bunch of money that I want you to have. I have no use for it and I know it's weird for me to give out my belongings but you'll probably have better use for it then I will." Mr. Romero stated
"It's all that drug money you were receiving?" Alex asked.
His father nodded and smiled a wicked smile.
"I refuse to take it," Alex snapped
"Then that's fine but have fun paying bills on a sheriffs salary." Mr. Romero laughed as he walked away.
Alex rolled his eyes at his father's words and slammed the door shut. Alex turned to Norma who looked exhausted.
"Let's go to bed," Alex said, leading Norma back inside.
Once inside, Alex started to lead Norma upstairs until he noticed the two dark bruises on both arms.
"Norma?" Alex asked, stopping at the top of the stairs.
Norma turned to him and gave him a confused looked.
"What happened to your arms?" Alex asked, brushing his cold fingers against her warm arms.
"I fell," Norma lied.
Alex held back a mocking laugh. They were married and she still felt the need to lie.
"Don't lie to me. Who did this?" Alex asked.
Norma dropped her gaze to the floor, "Your father.".
Alex grew angry and started walking down the stairs, but Norma grabbed his arm and shook her head.
"He's not worth it," Norma whispered, pulling Alex towards her.
"I'm not going to let a prick like him touch my wife!" Alex snapped
"Honey, it's nothing. It doesn't even hurt," Norma said
"I can't just let him get away with this!" Alex yelled.
Norma closed her eyes, thankful that the boys were at a camp for school.
"Let's just go to sleep. You're being the bigger person in this situation if you let it go." Norma stated, quietly.
Alex thought about it for a second and nodded his head. The couple walked to their bedroom and laid down, quickly falling asleep.
-
Four months had passed and nobody had heard from Alex's father. The day after he came to the house, there was money left at the front door. Close to nine-hundred thousand dollars from the drug industry. Alex thought about burning it all, not wanting anything to do with it, but he decided to use it for his family.
Norma had started getting sick in the mornings, around the two-month mark, so she decided to go to the doctors. She was pregnant and Alex was ecstatic when he found out.
The boys were excited as well; Dylan hoped for a sister while Norman wanted another brother.
-
Norma was in the kitchen cleaning every possible area; Alex was upstairs on a phone call and the boys had gone to Emma Decody's house.
As Norma cleaned, the phone in the kitchen started ringing. Norma walked over to it and answered.
"Hello," Norma said
"Hi, is this Mrs. Romero?" A woman asked
"This is she," Norma replied
"I'm Elizabeth Wells. I'm calling from the White Pine Bay hospital. Your son Dylan is here." The lady explained
"Why?" Norma asked, shocked.
"It's not anything too bad. Mr. Decody has brought your son in after Dylan fell and broke his arm." Elizabeth explained.
Norma sighed and closed her eyes, rubbing her forehead with her free hand, "I'll be there soon.".
Norma hung up and leaned against the wall. Alex walked in and looked at his wife.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked, wrapping his arms around Norma.
"Dylan broke his arm," Norma mumbled, her eyes still shut.
"How?" Alex asked
"I don't know," Norma snapped, not meaning to.
Norma sighed and squeezed her eyes shut, hugging Alex tighter, "I'm sorry.".
Alex chuckled, "It's alright, now let's go get him and Norman.".
-
"We get to find out the gender of the baby, tomorrow," Norma stated.
Alex smiled and glanced at Norma then back at the road, "I hope it's a girl."
"Me too but I also want a boy. Either way, I'm fine with it." Norma stated with a wide smile.
As they drove, neither noticed the drunk driver until the last second when Norma yelled at Alex, telling him to watch out.
The impact of the drunk driver's car hit Norma's side but it hit more of the very front of the car.
Luckily though, Alex decided to take his car instead of Norma's or both would be extremely injured.
Alex lifted his head from the steering wheel and looked over at Norma who was holding her stomach protectively and holding back a sob.
