one month later

I filled out a chart on one of my patients, focusing to the paperwork, which was the least stressful part of my job.

I soon saw Ashton, watching him stand beside me.

"So- we have to tell the chief about us before we go to Australia for Christmas" he spoke.

This was something I knew- something I had been mentally preparing myself for.

"Okay- we can do it next month-" "no Payton- we have to do it soon" he spoke, seeming stressed.

"Why? What's the rush?" I asked him.

"A nurse saw your name pop up onto my phone when I was doing paperwork and you have a heart by your name." He spoke firmly.

"There's plenty of Payton's in the world Ashton-" "yes, but there isn't that many Payton's who's middle and last name is Marie Johnson, so we're kinda screwed" he spoke quickly.

He had my full name in his phone.

"You're going to get me fired!" I stressed to him, seeing his eyebrows move together

"No way in hell, you're in the top three for best intern, there's no way in hell the chief would let you walk out of this hospital" he spoke quietly.

"Okay- well when are we doing this?" I asked, knowing I'd need to mentally prepare myself.

"I got an appointment with him for in thirty minutes"

"I'm going to fucking kill you"

As I handled my patient, Ashton went to the chief to tell him the news, making me a nervous wreck.

As I just finished updating his chart I got pages

Chiefs office- directly from the chief

I was fucking screwed.

I walked at a quick pace there- giving a small knock hearing a "come in" before I proceeded.

I saw just the chief- no Ashton.

"Doctor Johnson, please come take a seat" he spoke.

I did as said, thanking him.

"Doctor Irwin has informed me that you two would like my permission to continue an intimate relationship" He spoke

This was so fucking awkward.

I cleared my throat

"Yes- we would-" "normally I wouldn't allow this, but I'm willing to make an exception." He spoke firmly.

"You're a great doctor- you show skill that I haven't seen in an intern in years and it gives me great hope, and I know you've been through hell with your group of interns and I saw how Doctor Irwin reacted to all of that- he's a good man" he spoke.

"He is" I agreed firmly, smiling at the thought of him.

"You two have my permission, but don't expect it to be easy, your fellow interns were already jealous, they'll get worse- but to make it work you have to focus on the man you love rather than them, okay?"

"Yes sir, thank you so much" I exhaled, standing and shaking his hand.

"Just please- don't get pregnant for another three years at least"
