Me: I wrote a song
Max: i wanna hear
Me: I don't...
Max: I'm coming over

Twenty minutes later, Max let himself into my tour bus, then into my bunk. "Arizona."
"Hey, Max." I said, scooting over and making room for him on my bunk. "I... Anthony's friend tried to call me. The first time. Before Dad called me. To tell me."
"You didn't answer, did you?"
"No. I didn't. I..." I paused. "I have the song."
"How does it go?"
I slid him a piece of paper, singing. He read along.

I walk a fine line between coping and insanity
The white pills, right now, would be the wrong time
I have a hard time between flying and sobriety
The wrong thrill, strong will to keep myself alive

Watch this rip apart my family
Fuck that, I'd rather die with honor
And when the tide is running through me, I can feel no pain
It's not worth the price I pay

It's so hard to be together
And I try, and I try, but it won't get better
Forever
Days go, days go by
I won't die, I won't die cause
I must, I must try
Forever

I missed a phone call from a friend I knew the other day
It's strange, it changed my life forever
A couple days go by, I found out that he passed away
The right drug, the wrong time, he'll be remembered

There's two wolves battling us all right now
One's good, the other one is evil
If you're wondering which wolf inside will succeed
It's simple, it's the one that you feed

It's so hard to be together
And I try, and I try, but it won't get better
Forever
Days go, days go by
I won't die, I won't die cause
I must, I must try
Forever

It's so hard to be together
And it won't get better
Days go, days go by
But I won't, I won't die
Forever

It's so hard to be together
And I try, and I try, but it won't get better
Forever
Days go, days go by
I won't die, I won't die cause
I must, I must try
Forever

Max bit his lip. "Anthony. He's the second verse. Ronnie is the first."
"I guess."
He lowered his voice, remembering my band was around us. "It's a good song."
"I miss them. They're... They were my brothers. I don't have any brothers now."
"You have me." Max wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "I'm your brother, now. I think I always was."
"Yeah."
"I miss them too. Ronnie was my best friend, he..."
"I always remember you over at our house."
"I was always over."
We were quiet. "Can I have some?"
"What?"
"You know."
"I'll... I'll run to the bus. Meet me outside." Max pushed himself out of the bunk. I yawned, pulled a sweatshirt over my tank top, and went outside. "You meant the-"
"Yeah. I did." I sat on the steps of the bus.
He sat next to me. "All I have is needles."
"That's okay." I took one in my hand. "Would he be disappointed?"
"No. He's done this. He wouldn't want you to, though."
"He's not here."
"You sure you wanna do it? All I've got is strong stuff."
"I need to... I can't feel any more. I can't do it."
"It's... Aim for a vein. It's gonna hurt."
I silently nodded, then stabbed it into my arm. I let out a small breath as I pressed the syringe, as the drug flowed into my veins. "Okay."
"You're just like him." Max whispered. "You're exactly like him."
"Yeah. I... I've heard that a lot."
"I should go. Back to the bus, so they don't suspect anything."
"Yeah. Bye, Max."
"Bye. I love you, sis." He kissed my hair, then walked off to his tour bus.
I sighed, tossed the needle and syringe onto the ground, and went back inside the bus. I wasn't gonna tell anyone about this. They couldn't know.
