Nadiya's PerspectiveToday was the day.
The first time I can remember myself being scared, is when my father got deported. My mother barely worked and I wasn't sure if we were going to make ends meet. He was also my best friend. He was an amazing dad, who loved us, encouraged us, and would've died for us.
The second time I remember being scared is when I lost my sister. I didn't know where I was going to go, I didn't know where she was going to go. We were young, our parents weren't very religious so I had no clue what happened after we died. I didn't know if she was still hurting, if she was sad because she couldn't live more. I didn't know if she was feeling scared, just like me.
The third time I remember being scared is when they sent me to juvenile detention. I can still hear the kids shouting things at me as I walked down the hall. They called me names, and they wouldn't have hurt so bad, if there was something that I could do about it. I had no one. I sat in court, by myself. I sat in that, cold, foul smelling cell, by myself. I never thought being alone was a bad thing, until they took me into that place and I realized I had to join the Jungle.
