I ran my fingers through the long grass as I walked, nothing but a field lined with trees in front of me. The sun hung high in the sky - preparing itself to dip down into the horizon, hiding until the next new day came.

"He's not home right now-"
"Then I have to find him,"
I held Fleur's gaze confidently. She stared right back - eyes searching my own for any show of where my confidence was coming from. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure myself.
"I'm pretty sure I know where he is, it's somewhere he tends to spend all of his time now." She paused, her mouth curving upwards slightly at the edges. "Somewhere full of memories of the two of you."
My breath caught in my throat. Fleur's face filled with unfiltered surprise, a small grin replacing her former expression.
"And it seems like you already know where that is."
--
The evening light really began to shine as I walked, a gentle breeze countering the heat. Distant birds could be heard, hiding away in the trees or flying high in the sky - too far away for me to ever reach.

My hands rested on the steering wheel, staring forwards at the empty country road in front of me.
I didn't need sat nav, I knew the way already. Each twist and turn came to me as though it was second nature, carefully following each rule and regulation that a driver on the road needed to follow.
The world flew by around me - people living their own lives, all with their own stories. Stories I'd never know and would never come to learn. All that mattered to me at the moment, was focusing on getting to my destination.
Because maybe if I did, the conclusion I'd so desperately yearned for over the past year could be reached - and if not that, I'd still be able to set a story straight, to lighten the weight of a load carried by a stranger, who simultaneously was my closest friend.
I pulled to a halt at the traffic light, missing my chance to pass through the previous green light - now replaced by a clear red.
--
You've probably heard this description before, but the colour really was just like an emerald - hinted with yellow as we entered the autumn season. Each leaf that hung from each tree all had a sense of surreal wonder about them, as though it came right out of a story or a work of fiction.
--
I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel as I pulled up by the side of the road.
