Chapter 60

"You better not be taking me outside, Michael. It's January, and it's cold!"

Michael lead me out the door and I'm getting extremely suspicious about where we're headed.

"Alondra, don't worry about it. I promise it's nothing bad."

He smiles at me as he takes my hand and I quirk up an eyebrow.

"I wouldn't expect anything bad, but seriously, just tell me what's up."

Michael stops walking as we near the balcony gate and turns to face me. I frown.

"Why'd you stop? What's going on?" I question.

"Are you ready?" He asks, tipping my nose.

"Ready Freddie," I answer with an eye roll.

"The sass!" Michael gasps dramatically.

"Oh would you just open the darn gate!"

"Calm down baby. Anger and stress isn't good for our child."

"Michael--"

"Okay okay!" He giggles, raising up his hands. "Just teasing."

He turns back around and unlatches the golden gate. He pushes it open and steps to the side, and there's a party going on in front of me.

Tables are set up, draped with blue and yellow tablecloths. Orange decorative lighting hangs above me. Music is playing, and there's food. A lot of it.

My pregnant stomach isn't complaining about that.

"Lon! You made it!" Janet skips up to me and gives me a hug.

I smile and hug her back, trying to hide my confusion.

I give a light laugh and pull away. "Guess I did Jan."

I then receive embraces from the rest of Michael's family, some rubbing my belly bump.

"Congratulations," Marlon says.

I smile politely. "Thank you, Marlon."

I'm about to turn back to Michael to ask what this is for, but I'm already being dragged to the dance floor.

The music is turned up as I meet and talk with a ton of more people, including Lionel Richie, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston and Freddie Mercury.

All of my favorite music stars were here. What is this for?

I excuse myself from the chat I'm having with Lionel and walk to get a drink (non-alcoholic, I'm a responsible future mother).

As I distance myself from the fun, I run into Greg Phillinganes.

"There she is," He smiles and kisses my hand.

I slowly pull my hand away but remain polite. "Hi Greg," I say.

"Back with Michael, I see."

I nod and look at him. "Yes I am. I've realized how happy he makes me and I need him."

I'll confess my love for Michael to anyone who will care to listen.

"Wonderful," He says, though it sounds a bit forced.

"Yes he is. If you'll excuse me--"

"Sweetheart!" I hear my heartfelt nickname called out in front of me and I push past Greg, hurrying to Michael.

"Michael!" I fall into his arms and he hugs me tight.

"I missed you," he says as he grins down at me.
