Chapter five Memory Lane

"I hear voices, we're woken from my sleep. I'm haunted by either faults. I grieve."

Hela sat alone at the bar, sipping on her bourbon. The events of the previous day still lingered in her mind, but she found solace in the familiar burn of the alcohol. Elena's voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and Hela turned her gaze towards her.

Meanwhile, Damon appeared out of nowhere, taking a seat next to Elena. His presence irritated her, but she didn't let it show. Elena couldn't help but be intrigued by Hela's current demeanor and wanted to approach her, to bridge the gap between them.

Before Elena could make her move, she noticed Vanessa walking towards Hela. Confusion washed over her as she wondered what Vanessa was doing there. Damon noticed Elena's interest and couldn't resist teasing her.

"What's Vanessa doing here?" Elena asked, her curiosity evident.

Damon shrugged, wearing a mischievous grin. "No idea, but they've been hanging out," he replied.

Elena felt a pang of something akin to jealousy, though she denied it when Damon brought it up. Frustrated with Damon's presence and Hela's interaction with another girl, Elena decided it was best to distance herself from both of them.

"I want nothing to do with you," Elena declared, getting up from her seat.

Damon simply dismissed her, his nonchalant attitude evident. "Okay. See you at Jenna's barbecue," he said.

Confused by Damon's knowledge of Jenna's barbecue, Elena questioned him further. Damon explained that it was his idea to have the gathering, as a way to get to know Mason Lockwood and impress a certain fiery blonde, likely referring to Chloe. Elena's concern shifted to Jenna, wondering if she was aware of Damon's plans, considering their strained relationship.

As Elena was about to leave, a woman approached Damon and handed him a box containing a pie. Damon smiled in satisfaction, clearly pleased with the peach cobbler. Elena couldn't help but feel suspicious of his intentions.

"What are you up to?" she asked, her eyes narrowed.

Damon gave her an annoyed look. "You know, you ask a lot of questions. And I'm planning to put some silver into Mason Lockwood and prove he's a werewolf. See you at the barbecue," he replied, his intentions becoming clearer.

Elena sighed, growing more perplexed by the situation. She glanced at Hela, who was now smiling and engaged in conversation with Vanessa. A mix of emotions surged within Elena, but she shook her head, pushing them away. She decided to leave the table, putting some distance between herself and the complex feelings she had for Hela.

Hela noticed Elena leaving the grill, her gaze following her for a moment before focusing back on Vanessa, trying to enjoy the company and conversation at hand..
