Halloween was fun. I wish I could've had more. I had to take my cousin, and I barely got to enjoy myself. Future me, remember to be someone with long sleeves nexttime. Like Shuichi. Don't be Hajimeme again.
Ah, that boy across the road. He'd watch as the boy would work in his garden for hours, rearranging and planting flowers. He'd watch as he strung lights through the railing crevices. He'd watch as he'd run a hand through his brown hair, mixing dirt in it. It made him happy, and though he didn't have any idea of his availability, he knew he wanted to talk to the flower boy one day.
But, he did know his availability. The boy across the road was engaged to a young lady named Chiaki, but despite being betrothed, she lived away from him. She'd rarely visit, and there was never much affection stirred between them. But, no matter how close the two were, he felt as if he was unable to have a chance with the flower boy. Then, he looked around at the room he was watching from, and realized there was more than one reason he couldn't have a chance.
Shadows danced a long the walls, some chatting while some writhed in pain. Nagito could see the shadows of people who passed in this very house. Though they barely noticed him, it took a toll on his head. A little secret was hidden inside the cupboard beneath the sink, tucked in the very back. He dared not to touch if, as it might hurt him later on. But... he was going to wither within this house if he didn't make a move, so there's no point in holding back.
He gingerly took the object out of the cupboard, shaking the dust off it gingerly. He took a deep breath, and rubbed the lamp. Nagito could only wish it was a genie, however, he was aware that it was a demon pretending to be a fair genie. The lamp did not move for a heartbeat before shaking intensely and exploding into air. A puff of gray smoke fell to the ground like a thick mist, and above it floated exactly what he expected. A red-skinned "genie", with a very lavish brooch right beneath it's chin.
"I, the fair genie, will grant you one wish with minimal consequences. What is your wish?" The demon announced proudly, extending a hand dramatically to prove his point. Nagito made eye contact with it, fearing no longer. The words came out almost if rehearsed," I want to make the boy across the road willingly love me." He pruned over the words for a second, wracking his brain to see if there were any loopholes in there. The demon smirked, rubbing his hands together before clapping them with a flourish, and a sugar cookie fell a top the table, a long with a very fancy bottle.
"A love potion. This will show you his true feelings and make him realize the good in you. Present it to him in a gift," The demon explained before smirking,"3 days" and whizzing back into the lamp. Nagito took the bottle, popped the cap and took a sip, letting the taste of rootbeer flush over his tongue. No poison. He placed the cookie on a plate, taking a small piece and checking for poison before walking out of his house. His bangs flopped to block his view, but he watched for so long that he knew his way around. With the slightest shake of the hands, he lowered the plate on the porch table, rang the doorbell, and left.

For the next two days, Nagito planned his new schedule so he would pass Hajime while he was outside. He would be able to see if it worked. Sadness gripped at him everytime Hajime didn't wave to him like a suburban soccer dad, or was too busy gardening to notice Nagito. Anguish overtook him when he realized there was no change. Hajime was still a kind, sarcastic guy while Nagito was the creepy neighbor. There wasn't a new look of love, or even a nod that said everything. But, Nagito watched with his two eyes as Hajime drank the potion. He snapped out of his daydreaming as the lamp had appeared in front of him. Without any hesitation, he rubbed the lamp and watched as the demon burst out once more."Why has it not been working?" Nagito demanded immediately, acutely aware that three days had flown by." It does not work if the thing the potion gives, the drinker already has." That potion was a love potion. Love for Nagito. That meant... Hajime has love for him. His heart fluttered with excitement, and he beamed happily before a choking cold overtook his body.
His hands flew to his throat as the cold clenched it like a fist, and the rest of his body began to shake, trying to produce heat."W-What?" Nagito chattered out, trying to conserve his energy. The demon beamed, kicking off into the air with one foot."My payment has come! You owe me all of the essence that keeps your being alive!" It cackled. Komaeda's eyes widened. If he died, after finding out that he still had a chance with the boy across the road, he wouldn't be able to rest peacefully." I thought... less consequences," He choked out, feeling the very energy leave his arms."You valued your life so little that it can be easily taken!"
Panicked, he burst out of his home, feeling the cold cling to his back and soon spread through his body once more. His veins felt close to bursting as he hurtled across the street. Nagito raised a hand and slammed it down on the doorbell before slopping down on the porch, trying to fight the demon. But, there was no use, as it sucked and squeezed all the energy from Nagito like a vaccum. He felt his body go numb, only feeling the cold throat and above. Nagito rolled his head over, taking one last look at the horrified Hajime coming back from shopping, and closing his eyes for the last time.
