Everyone's just trapped in the school because ew killing game. I just want everyone to be alive

The sun comes up, the stars go down, rotating tirelessly though the days seems to grow shorter. Shuichi and his classmates still search desperately, but there was no exit. The tunnel underground was impossible as well,  and they've tried it so many times that even Kaede gave up. Everyday was another,"Maybe this time!" When they blatantly knew the truth. There was no exit. But they kept lying, over and over. Shu noticed that some of his classmates were lying to themselves just to spite Kokichi, who appeared when they were giving up. He jeered at them, saying there was no exit and they should get settled in.

He was shunned from that day, though he still came for breakfast. Shuichi did his best to be nice to Kokichi, but he was always pulled back or made it worse for the boy, who got blamed for manipulating Shu into feeling bad. But that was not the case. Despite how timid and reserved he is, he wasn't the easiest to manipulate. If anything, he was just a bad a liar as Kokichi. They all were, really. Ever since he began paying more attention, a certain detail caught his eye. Kokichi always dragged his feet even though he stood up straight and had a big smile.

At first, Shu thought it was because Kirumi chased him. Then, he asked Kirumi about it, only to find that Mom, by the interests of the others, doesn't see Kokichi everyday anymore. That day, she was braiding Gonta's hair, and didn't even see the purple haired rat. Once that theory was out the window, he assumed Kaito chased him around the school, only to find out Momota never sees Kokichi unless it was for a split second. Maki said the same. With all the possible ideas burning out slowly, he was left with no leads. But perhaps it was just for this week, Shuichi thought.

     He was wrong

Every single day, Kokichi would come in, dragging his feet, and even some days, he'd be slouched too. But no one else seemed to notice but Shu. He approached the boy to ask once." Ah, Kokichi! May I speak to you?" He had called out. Kokichi had whipped around, and Shu noticed a relieved look cross his face for a moment,"Yeesss, Mr. Detective?" "Are you tired? You've seemed tired everyday I've seen you," Thinking back on it now, perhaps Shuichi should've been less direct. "Awwh, Shu's all worried about me! Shouldn't you be worrying about how to escape?" With that, he had run away.

And now, in the present day, his classmates were going to search the whole school building, top to bottom. Shu, who had shown signs of worry over the course of a few weeks, was assigned the easier job of searching the outside. It was night time by the time his classmates began filing out and heading back to their dorms. But Shuichi hadn't even looked in the back building yet. Just a bit longer would do. He walked over to the building, immediately hearing the sounds of machines working.

Shuichi looked around, seeing that nothing in the room was running. And then his gaze fell on the manhole, covered by patches of grass. As silently and carefully as possible, he crept down the ladder, hands suddenly filling with sweat the further he got down. The sounds rang in his ears even louder. Explosions, followed by a grunt. Clicking, followed by a huff. And then nothing. Shuichi approached the obstacle course he had tried so many times to do, and looked down it. Someone was attempting it, but they were too far away to make out any details.

There was an explosion, followed by nothing.

And then, a click from behind him.

Shuichi turned around to find the charred and beat up body of Kokichi, heaving himself to his feet, seemingly unaware of Shu's presence. He quickly laid himself against the wall, hiding and blending in with the shrubbery and shadows. Kokichi struggled to stand, but it seemed that did not stop him as he launched himself right back into the course. Not even a few minutes later, he was lowered back down at the entrance. The purple haired boy, though he seemed too tired to even breathe, scrambled to his feet, rolled his sleeves up, and began walking towards the course once more.

Shu quickly came out, standing in the way of Kokichi. He must've looked angry, or disappointed, as the boy stepped back hurriedly." H-Hey, let's go back, okay?" Shuichi said softly, gesturing towards the ladder and extending a hand. Kokichi blinked, and took it, and Shu immediately felt the burn marks. Kichi was probably so good at makeup if he were to hide these. They made their way up the ladder, and Kokichi suddenly began leaning against Shuichi as a support. And then, the boy passed out, leaving Shu to carry him back to the dorms.

His medical expertise was less than amazing, but a feeling of panic had set into Shuichi at that time. Every burn, scratch and bruise had some kind of care applied. Was Kokichi doing this every night? Was that why he came to breakfast a little later than everyone? Was that why he always made sure his collar covered his neck? Was that why he avoided everyone? Because despite all of his lies, Kokichi was still trying to escape through that obstacle course. For months, perhaps. And he would keep trying until he had no more stamina. That thought scared Shuichi, the thought of someone working themselves to nothing.

     "Mmrgh,"

His head shot up as Kokichi began to stir."Gosh damn that stings,"Kichi grumbled, making a small effort to sit up, failing and kept laying."A few more minutes wo- Oh hi Shuichi!" His demeanor immediately shifted to disgruntled patient to bratty child once more. But Shu was sure his expression did not change, for he knew what he felt towards Kokichi."How long have you been doing this?" He asked quietly, rubbing his thumb anxiously over his own hand. Kokichi shrugged nonchalantly."Can you stop?"

"I'm getting so close though! Imagine that! The person they hate so much, saving them!"

      "Shut up,"

Kokichi looked stunned as Shuichi leaned over and let his torso fall, draping over Kokichi's blanket covered body."You deserve the hurt you get from this. You've been doing this for so long. I'm not leaving this room until you're healed," He said, harshly, sprawling his arms out across the blanket lazily."I'm already healed enough to walk!" Kichi said, obviously wanting to go to breakfast."Fully. Healed. Kirumi will come looking for me and I will bring food," Shu snapped, before his gaze softened." I've been so worried, do you know that? You've hurt yourself so badly for our sakes, and none of us trust you," He mumbled, empathy filling him."I'll get better, Shumai. I promise. But, I have to find a way out somehow," Kokichi said determinedly."Then I'll find it with you! I'm not letting you get killed by this!" And for the first time ever, Shuichi watched as a smile creeped across a Kokichi's face.

A new smile

A real smile
