The strings wrapped around his fingers aimlessly, waiting to be tugged. But every time he lifted a hand, the strings pulled back, wanting to be free. It got confusing, after it happened over and over again. Then, he found a solution. Tie a knot and never let them pull back, and picking them up was effortless. It became routine, as every string pinched into his flesh over and over and over until it left an undeniable mark.
Or, at least that was what Nagito thought he saw every time he closed his eyes. It might've been one of the only things forcing him to move forward. He knew he could wrap the string tighter, but one thing stood in the way of his vision for hope. Hajime Hinata. Not in the, "I've foiled your schemes." Kind of obstacle, more of a,"I know you too well and will be sad if you destroy what I love." Kind of obstacle. It was just a streak of bad luck, meeting Hajime. And yet, he wanted to be closer to him everyday, and wrap his fingers around his hands, and pull him in and-
"Daydreaming about a love, I wonder? Wow! You teenagers are so needy!" Monokuma laughed, springing out from the bathroom, a bath towel wrapped lazily around his bear head."I'm here to deliver a gift from our very special sponsor, Menishoa Kionj mind control!" He cheered, and a small parcel dropped into Nagito's lap."Ah, thank you, Monokuma. Is this another motive?" He asked politely, but absolute hate seethed through every inch of him."Nope! How could loving someone be a motivee?"
Now that. That worried Nagito. But he had no choice, so he took ahold of the paper and ripped it, finding a simple box. Inside, a golden string no longer than a straw." Monokuma, you forgot the motive," Komaeda said warily, picking the string up and holding it aloft in the light."Nope! All you need to do is tie this lil thing around anybody's finger and boom! They're all yours!" Monokuma explained, with too much excitement."All yours? Like, no free will mine or I like you mine?" Ko inquired, studying the string intensely.
"Why not both? Actually, what if I told you I could just make your life a thousand times better! I could bring you to Hajime's cabin~" Monokuma sang, walking to the door and letting the bath towel fall. Though he knew it was wrong, Nagito followed, and soon, they were both standing over a sleeping Hajime. He looked so peaceful, and yet every instinct of his was screaming. Monokuma's grin stretches out more and he left, leaving the two in the room together. Komaeda took the golden string and hesitated. It was a one time thing and he could make Hajime remember none of it.
He tied the string around Hajime's finger, making a neat bow. Nagito took a deep breath and whispered,"Wake up." Immediately, Hajime's eyes shot open, making Ko quickly step away. Hajime stood and stared blankly before looking around."Uh-" His words caught in his throat. It had actually, really worked! But why did he feel so bad, just trying to get what he wants? He shook his head, cleared his throat and spoke the words he wished were true.
"I want you to love me,"
Hajime's eyes brightened, but that was always normal. The brunette rushed over, taking both of his hands and smiling. The boy spoke, but it didn't feel right."Komaeda-kun, I would die for you! I'll love you more than Chiaki, love you more than Fuyuhiko, love you more than life itself!" Hajime cried, pulling Nagito into an embrace. And then the doubt came to him. He had what he wanted now. Hajime's love. But was it real? Did the real Hajime know what he did, and was waiting for the boy to release him? But this was real. He had made it real.
He deserved this.
Of all things.
He deserved this.
And the golden string unravelled, and Hajime slumped forward, leaning against Nagito's chest."Ff, ouch," the boy grumbled, forcing himself to his feet with Nagito as a support." I'm sorry, Hinata-kin," Ko blurted as soon as he saw his tired face. Hajime tilted his head in a,'go on' manner, and Ko knew that he wouldn't get out of this."I wasn't thinking, I just... I wanted you to be good luck instead of bad, just for once, I wanted to... love... you," He stopped, realizing what he just said.
"I love you too, Nagito," Hajime said sweetly. Nagito, in response, shook his head vigorously."You're feeling side effects of the string, that's all. You hate me," Ko insisted, and all of a sudden, he felt two hands clasp his. Their fingers interweaved, and he glanced into Hajime's face."I know you, and I do hate you, but, you're not a villain. And I think that's okay, loving the not villain," He said earnestly, and smiled. Nagito felt himself smile back, and they embraced, silence spreading into the room. But no more words wee necessary, as the golden string lay there, a motive backfired.
