"I knew you would, Dear."
"Lucille," she hesitated, "Lucille, I wanna go home."
"Alright."
Zoe and Lucille walked out to the road. Silently they headed back to the neighborhood, occasionally sniffles coming from Zoe.
"Thank you. I know I yelled, and was a mess, but I didn't mean it. I understand now."
"You don't have to apologize, you had a reaction."
"I didn't realize I had such an impact on everyone's life. I mean," Zoe let out a cross between a chuckle and a sigh, "Mom may have given up great opportunities, but she did want me. She chose me.
"And Walter, he trusted me when he needed someone the most. Maria toughened up, she learned to fight."
"You helped every single one of them. Life may not be perfect, but they relied on you. You changed them for the better."
Zoe thought quietly. They need her. Maria would be the cowering girl was once before. Walter would've died. Her parents never met up. She wouldn't have siblings.
