Steve's POV

We all watch as the building exploded. No one did anything, we couldn't. I look at Bucky to see him on his knees, tears streaming down his face. "She's dead. She's dead and I never got to tell her how truly sorry I am."

"Don't say that Buck," I reassure him. "She knew it wasn't your fault." He doesn't respond but I know that he doesn't believe me. Bruce comes out from the quinjet, hearing the explosions.

"Did anyone get hurt?" He asks. It was then he saw Bucky. He looked around to see who was missing. "Where's Sam?"

"She went back," was all Tony could reply with. Even he was at a loss for words. I notice that Clint and Wanda had started crying as well. "She just ran back inside with no explanation."

"No, something or someone she knew was in there. She wouldn't go back in for no reason," Nat chimed in.

I hear Falcon murmur to Bucky, "it's gonna be okay. You'll be fine."

"But she isn't!" Bucky screamed back. "If I hadn't have been such a fool I could've grabbed her! I could've stopped her fro-," he was cut off as rubble and debris started shifting.

"What the-," Rhodey says as we see something rise from the wreckage. I squint to see a person with two majestic wings, carrying a lifeless body in their hands. As they progress closer, I notice that the being is female- oh my Gods. Sam.

Bucky's POV

I see the angel-like thing make its way towards us. At first, I honestly thought it was some type of cliché 'guardian angel' thing, when I noticed that Sam was said angel. In her arms was a child. A boy no older than maybe 5 or 6. "SAM!" I shout on the top of my lungs.

She heads towards us, rather quickly might I add, shouting something. Something like- "Bruce! Bruce! BRUCE!"

She lands directly in front of the doctor, thrusting the boy in his arms. "Bruce I need your help. Check him over, do whatever needs to be done. Please Bruce I'm begging you!" The scientist is still frozen in shock. "BRUCE!"

He finally realised what's going on and takes the little boy. "But what about y-,"
"NOW!!!"

As Banner takes the boy into his mini med bay, we all gather round Sam. She looks to me and, instead of rolling her eyes in disgust, she runs up to me, and gives me a bone-shattering hug.

"I'm so so so sorry, I love you so much, I took you for granted, please forgive me," she says. I overcome the initial shock of the hug and hold her tightly.

"You have nothing to apologise for. It was all my fault," I say back. Also I'm 80% sure she's crying, which I've never seen her do. Not in all the years we were at HYDRA.

After a solid 5 minutes, we are ushered back onto the jet where Stark joins Banner and we start making our way back home. Sam and I sit in a comfortable silence, her leaning into me whilst I hold her as if there's no tomorrow. "So, wings, huh?" I finally say, breaking the silence. She giggles slightly, but the worry in her voice is evident. "If you don't mind me asking, who was that boy?" I ask quietly.

"I mind," she says in true Sam fashion. I chuckle at this comment.

"Okay."

About 15 minutes later, Stark enters the 'lounging area' of the jet with Banner in tow. Sam immediately springs up and looks at him expectantly. Stark just looks at her with a sad expression, "he didn't pull through. I'm sorry."

Sam looks as if she was about to melt into a puddle of sadness, self-pity and anger right there. She clearly doesn't know what to do with herself. She eventually looks up, but not at a specific person. She looks at the wall and says, "I'll see you guys there."

As per usual, I'm confused. "See you wh-?" I ask before she slams the button that opens the hatch (idk if it's called a hatch if you know what it's called please tell me!) and jumping out of the jet. I'm pretty sure I went into cardiac arrest, but I was put a little at ease when I saw her flying ahead of us (but still terrified).
