I laughed loudly, "You do know that those dragons don't exist, right?"

I laughed loudly, "You do know that those dragons don't exist, right?"

Yennefer looked taken back as she let out a small scoff, "I beg your pardon."

"You can't be serious. Golden dragons don't exist. Green dragons are the most common, red and and black dragons are rare and golden dragons..." I laughed again, "They don't exist."

"Well I beg to differ." Yennefer huffed.

"Look, I'm not trying to.. offend.. you in anyway. Nobody has never seen a gold dragon before and even if they did, there's no proof of one ever existing."

"I have proof." The mage shrugged like it was no big deal, smirking at me when she saw my baffled expression. "I just need help tracking it."

"Wait, back up. How do you have proof?"

"A few weeks ago the guards shot down a dragon that was flying over the city. It really stirred a lot of people up because dragons don't come out of the mountains unless there's a good reason. King Nero has sent guards to go and track the beast down but they can't find it."

"So is that story supposed to be your proof or..." I raised an eyebrow at her.

Yennefer released a heavy breath before rummaging around in the nightstand near the bed I was lying on.

"This is my proof." She showed me a golden dragon scale. "I found it on the pathway after the dragon had left."

"By the gods." I mumbled as the candle light flickers off the scale.

"Believe me now?" Yennefer teased.

"Yes!" I laughed in excitement, "What do you plan on doing when you find the dragon?"

"Harvest it's heart."

My breath got caught in my throat as she said it so easily, "I'm sorry what? You just plan on killing the only known golden dragon?"

"I need it's heart for an alchemy project I'm working on. You in or not, Witcher?"

Go on an adventure with Yennefer, the girl that made my stomach fill with butterflies, and track down a myth so she can harvest it's heart for an alchemy project.

Or

Say no and pay her in coin for healing me, grab Geralt and leave the small town of Redwater by sunrise.

Fuck.

"I'm in."

"Yes!" Yennefer cheered.

"But,"

Yennefer groaned.

"What are we going to do with Geralt?"

"Your brother? I guess he can come to, the more trackers the better. Or he can do whatever he does best. I don't care." Yen shrugged.

I wanted Geralt to sit this one out and that made me feel like an ass. Maybe he could do his own thing for awhile and we could have some space. Take a break from seeing each other all the time. No, that would be selfish of me. After all, he's done nothing but protect me and care for me and it would be nice to have another tracker around.

"I'll talk to him in the morning then." I told her.

"Good. Get some rest, y/n. I'll change your bandages in the morning." Yen smiled before blowing out the candle.

...

"I was thinking last night and I couldn't help but think you look familiar." Yen said softly as she took off the towel soaked in herbs off my vampire bite wound, the morning light streaming in through the small widow above the door.

"We were friends when we were young. You hit Bjorn in the head with a shovel the first time we met." I laughed as I thought back on the memory.

"Oh my god! That's right!" Yennefer laughed, "You used to bake bread for me all the time."

I nodded, the smile on my face never going away, "Yeah, I did. Sometimes I think you only kept me around for the bread."

Yen feigned being hurt, "Id never do such a thing."

I chuckled lightly, the happiness dying down as my lips morphed into a frown, "I never thought I'd see you again. I watched them take you and your good for nothing father just let them!"

Yennefer placed her hand on my cheek, her thumb pad lightly caressing my warm skin as she traced the deep and jagged scare line I had under my eye. I couldn't help but lean into her touch. She was warm, inviting, something I was familiar with. Despite her change in looks I knew it was the same Yennefer I had met when I was a little girl.

"My father got what was coming to him when the elves burned down Vengerberg." She shrugged as her shoulders sagged ever so slightly, like her father was still weighing her down even from the grave.

"I heard about that. The elves first declaration of war. It's like they're just doing this for fun considering nobody knows who their enemy is." I spat the last part with venom coating my lips.

While both of our fathers deserved to die, the rest of the towns people shouldn't have suffered the same fate. Some people started rumors that the town was haunted by angry souls who refused to leave their home. Nobody dares go over there now.

"Some people believe they're still going after people with magical abilities." Yen sighed.

"Goodmorning." Geralt yawned loudly as he came down the stairs, stretching his limbs above his head.

"Hey, Ger." I greeted my brother who smiled at me.

"How are you feeling?"

"A little weak but I'm good." I shrugged as Yen finished putting another herb coated towel on the bite mark.

"With your witcher blood and your werewolf blood, you should be healed fully by the end of the day. You'll just feel out of it." Yen smiled before cleaning up the mess of herbs.

"Do you think Elizabeth sent the attack?" Geralt asked seriously, sitting down at the end of my bed.

"Last I knew her coven didn't have the numbers to send an attack like that."

"Elizabeth is the only pure blooded vampire we know. She could have a coven filled up with them by now!" My brother groaned.

"So why don't we go talk to her?" I asked.

"Talk to who?" Yen asked plopping down at the small wooden table in the corner.

"Elizabeth. She's a... friend?" I tilted my head from side to side as I thought about what label to put on it. Vampires and Werewolves were mortal enemies, they always would be, but Elizabeth and I have helped each other on a few rare occasions. More so trading reasons than anything else.

"Vampire friend to be more specific." Geralt grunted in disapproval.

"And you want to go and talk to her?" The mage looked between us both.

"A war between the two kinds is starting, I just want to know if she was the one who issued the attack."

Yen thought about it for awhile, I could tell because her facial expression was stone cold and stoic.

"Alright, I'm in." Yen declared, "We can track down the golden dragon on the way."

"What is she talking about, y/n?" Geralt turned to look at me, his bushy white eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Yennefer needs to harvest the heart of a golden dragon for an alchemy project. She just needs our help to track it down."

"Before you ask, yes I have proof." Yen showed my brother the golden scale.

"By the gods." Geralt mumbled.
