chapter 9

He woke with a start. He remembered where he was, and felt his heart rate instantly subside. He had to remind himself that Snoke was dead and even though he had run away from the first order, there was no way that they would find him.

This wasn't actually the first time he inhabited Edroth. Edroth was like a second home to him. Before the Jedi academy his parents use to take him here for little holidays and considering everyone who ever knew about this planet was dead- he felt pretty safe.

He felt alone

Rey's words rang in his head. She wasn't wrong, but he wasn't the type to have to need anyone. But he felt an ache. A desire to experience the galaxy with someone else.

He had offered Rey his hand twice now and still every time... She stays.

He rolled out of bed and followed the path down to the ocean, feeling the grass tickle his legs. He didn't really remember the ocean, it felt like such a long time ago. He walked up to the shore and felt the cold sand on his toes and felt the cool breeze weave through his hair.

It was things like this that made him appreciate life. No matter how horrible his childhood was, these moments he treasured.

He felt his face contort in a confused look as he realised that it was the same feeling he got each time the force connected him to Rey.

What was wrong with him? He couldn't stop thinking about her. The scavenger. He liked to tell himself that he felt nothing towards her but he knew he would be lying to himself.

He walked back up to his Hut and stayed there for the rest of the day.

Rey woke with a start. Feeling the cool canvas of her bed, she started to calm down. Surely last night was a dream. No way did Poe actually like her. It made sense to Poe and to pretty much the entire resistance if they had gotten together. But taking his hand was wrong. Because secretly her heart belonged to someone else.

She didn't want to admit it and she didn't know how she came to the conclusion but she knew she no longer thought that that this guy was a monster.

Shaking her head, she decided to get up and start the day. Finding her usual tunic and styling her hair in three buns she was ready for the day ahead of her.

Today she would be training a few people who were force sensitive. The resistance needed all the fighters they could get.

Walking down towards the cafeteria she walked past the command centre. She froze when she found Poe looking at her. She smiled and gave a small wave remembering that they were still friends. This was gonna be awkward

He smiled but didn't wave. He watched her walk away and his eyes didn't leave the spot she was last at.

After eating breakfast she walked to the training centre and found 3 people sitting on the floor. She should say 3 kids...

They all looked up at her and nervously smiled at her.

"are you Rey?" asks the youngest boy.
She smiled at him and gave a nod.

"what are your names?" she asks tenderly giving them all her hand so they could Stand up.

"I'm Oscar" said the oldest looking boy, his blonde hair cropped short.

"I'm Thomas" said the youngest boy, his rosy cheeks could of heated up the room.

"I'm summer" says the only girl. Rey looks down at her hair to see pink and black stripes. "how old is everyone?" she asks looking back down at them.

"Thomas is 6, Summer is 7 and I'm 9" says Oscar. She smiles down at them.

"alright. Are you ready to start training?" she asked enthusiastically. They all nodded and smiled up to her. She led them all over to the meditation mats and taught them how to properly meditate.

After 2 hours of this, harnessing equal parts of light and dark they began combat. Oscar immediately went for a staff while the other two grabbed trainer lightsabers.

Rey then realised that she actually has never tried out her new saber-staff. She started out slow and thought them all a few stances. Teaching Oscar ways to hold the staff and weild it while showing Summer and Thomas how to properly hold a lightsaber. They moved onto some moves, Rey using a training saber. They swung, hit, dived and fought off dummy's for hours when Rey got an idea.

"who wants to have a go with me" she says with a smile. They all looked at her wide eyed not wanting to get chosen. She heard a voice pipe up from the back.

"I will" Poe steps out of the shadows. He must have been watching for a while. Rey didn't find the watching part weird because he was general, he probably just wanted to see how training was going. However, Rey found the part of him volunteering weird as he wasn't even force sensitive.

She chucked him her training saber and went and grabbed her new one. No one else had seen it and when it wasn't ignited it looked like a small pole laying in her hands.

"what are you gonna do with that little thing" says Poe all cocky, his saber all ready lit. She ignited it looking right into his eyes. Yellow shone throughout the room, and everyone went silent. The kids stopped giggling and Poe's eyes looked scared.

"I'm gonna beat you" she said. Her head turned slightly as she gave him one last smile.

He ran at her and swung his saber so it came in contact of the northern end of her saber staff. With an easy flick of the saber he stumbled backwards. She turned and spun the saber in her hand making the light look like circles in the air. He defended her next hit but she could tell he was panicking. She could feel that he chose to do this to impress her even though he wasn't force sensitive. He thought he could beat her because she... Was a girl.

Now that last thought of Poe's was a big mistake. Rey ran back up to him, kicked his legs out from under him kicked him in the chest so he was lying on his back saber out of reach. Rey struck down at his chest and stopped before it made contact.

"Check mate" she said and walked off towards the kids. They all clapped and cheered for her when she walked back over to them.

"lesson one- never get too cocky, you lose concerntraion if you become overpowered" she said glaring at Poe as he sat up and stared at her.

"lesson 2: let the force guide you, don't guide the force. You have all the power you need inside if you, let the force bring that side of you out" she said looking into their little eyes.

"that's all for today, I suggest you get a good night sleep and I will see you tomorrow" she said. As they all left she gave each one of them a high five.

Poe was still sitting on the floor staring at her. Rey walked towards the door and as she passed him she said. "it doesn't matter what gender I am, I will always be able to kick your ass" she glared at him and stormed off.

She felt him let the guilt wash over him and she didn't feel sorry at all.
