I jogged around the clearing two more times, my panic mounting with every second i couldn't find her. Finally I raced up to her father hopping he could supply me with answers. He looked weary but otherwise  fine, other than a gash above his brow. My emotions were erratic causing the rumbles overhead to increase.

"Hunter! have you seen Ayla?"

His face transformed from anger to panic; mirroring my own

"No". He looked around his anger resurfacing when he could not spot her amongst the crowd

I inhaled a deep breath the calm i had attempted to quell unleashed full force turning the rumbles in the sky to full fledged thunder that quaked the sky with my fury

My breathing labored as i fought to not lose control

Someone took her. My Ayala

I ruminated over our last moments loathe to believe they would be our last. Instead of spending them talking about a future with us,  we spoke of her. The vile woman i endeavored  to forget existed with my every breath.

The shifter male Ayla was fond of found us looking equally  worried. He growled as he approached

"Those were the same guys-"

"Have you seen Ayla?" He responded by doing the same thing Hunter did, igniting my impatience further

Was no one looking out for her during the battle?

Then i realized who i was speaking of.  she wasn't a fragile female. She had formidable powers. No one would think she needed protecting.  I had seen with my own eyes what she could do. So then how did they best her enough to take her?

Desolation and failure swept over me like a calm solemn  breeze. It was my job. The one i vowed to my king. The man to whom i owed everything. Safeguard his granddaughter. After he lost his beloved daughter she was all that remained of her. The king himself had spared my life after my shameful  affair with his bonded was discovered. I owed him everything. I pledged to obey his every wish and never betray him after his kindness.

Today however i failed him.  i was not worthy to be her bonded as i had previously hoped I could be.I certainly wasn't worthy of being her protector

"Hey"  Hunter said gripping my shoulder. His reassurance would have meant something had i not been stewing in my grief and anger

The thunder cracked louder Deafening and booming; its ferocity matched my mood completely

"We will find her." I tried to give him a confident nod but it fell short

Just then her brother and his new bride emerged beside us

She cradled Taylen Ayla's son. I suddenly felt such sorrow that his mother was taken because of me. The loss would impact his life forever, if i could not recover her. It shook me from my pitying thoughts and fueled my resolve

Hunter quickly took him in his arms and clutched him close

"Your sister is gone they have taken her" Hunter stated

"What!!!"  He shouted furiously, then he leveled his gaze on me

"YOU were supposed to protect her!" he roared stepping to me with aggression

"I was busy defending your pitiful home" i spat back

"You are a w-"

"ENOUGH! this does not help us" Hunter interjected with annoyance

His loud booming voice startled Taylen causing him to wail unhappily. Hunter growled with increased  frustration. I dragged a hand down my face looking at the shifter

 "can you sniff her out?"

"I can but we both know, these people. they will have taken precautions against that kind of thing" he replied

I nodded knowing he was right. reluctantly  I looked toward her brother

"You said you could reverse time can yo-"

"Only a few minutes back i said. Ayla's clearly been gone far longer than that"

I sighed exasperatedly

"Hunter do you think you can pick up something? At least if we knew who specifically took her"

"We know who took her"  The shifter growled "It was Nax"

"Yes, no doubt but it cant hurt to be sure right? It will point us in the right direction"

"I cannot this is an wide open space. Many emotions and people have traversed through here."

"Okay will it help if we found something of hers. here in the clearing?" Ayla's brothers bride asked

"Perhaps i believe so"  he aggredd

A rise of hope filled my chest. As everyone scattered and began looking through the grass. Meticulously. The wedding lights that adorned the trees for the occasion provided ample light yet we struggled to find anything.

Just as i was beginning to lose hope the moonlight glinted off a small object beside me. I plucked it from the grass eagerly  and raised it for inspection. A smile graced my face when i realized it was Ayla's. she had wore it in her hair for the ceremony this night

Immediately I rushed over to Hunter presenting it ardently for his power;  to tell me what i desperately needed to know

He looked up at me gratefully as the others rejoined us

Swiftly He handed Taylen back to the brothers bride and grabbed the small hair pin. He tensed suddenly. then mere seconds later he shook violently and dropped it back into the grass

"She is alive. Nax did indeed take her.  BUT he intends to deliver he to Dakkar. She is terrified they have wards that continue to subdue her powers"

The atmosphere tensed and my thunder split open the sky threatening  to rain down around us

"I will return to the fae lands and secure a small army to assist in finding  her"  i declared. I would do whatever it took to rescue her from that sadistic bastard

"I will go with you" hunter stated retaking Taylen in his arms

"And i as well" the shifter announced

Her brother moved to agree as well but i interrupted him with a refusal. he was newly wed and was the ruler of his people he was needed here

Reluctantly he agreed as long as we kept him abreast of our progress. his new bride clutched his hands, thankful for our intervention.

"Prepare yourselves quickly. We leave in an hour"  i said

i couldn't and wouldn't waste any valuable time. Every second Ayla was with that demented man meant she may end up gone just like her mother.

Her gone was not a reality i was ever willing to accept. I would save her even if it costed me my own  life. I had once given everything to a female who was not worthy

This time i had the chance to redeem myself with one who was, and as such  i could grant her no less than my utmost devotion and sacrifice...............................

In case you didn't read the first book no one knows of Dakkar's obsession with Ayla. As of now he is simply known as the enemy

What do you think of Sinik's thoughts?

What do you think awaits Ayla at Dakkars hands?
