I raced back to fae castle riding a horse i paid handsomely for as soon as i was able to leave the Grezi forest. I couldn't get there fast enough. The image of Ayla being tortured  at that place with Dakkar kept replaying in my heart and head like a bad omen

He planned to rape and impregnate her. She was in pain, she was suffering and i felt like a huge failure that i couldn't reach her yet. I needed an small army to take on the force Dakkar would surely have

Everything i had learned from the finder was enlightening, I could hardly believe I had met Ayala before and didn't realize it. I found it difficult however to believe that she was destined for me

It all seemed too far fetched to me . And i hated the notion that the choice was beyond me or my understanding. As commander, i thrived on control even though i did feel a intensely unique connection and desire for Ayala

Somethings are beyond our control just as they are beyond our understanding

His words echoed in my head as i rode, repeating as they had from the moment he said them. A heavy sense of duty fell upon me with them. I suddenly felt like everything occurring had a deeper meaning; as if it held greater weight than any of us knew or ever contemplated from the very start

So i raced to save  her because whether i believed in destiny or not my conscious, my very being demanded it. I couldn't abide a world where she didnt exist.

I never would. Perhaps the finder had made some sense. I had never felt the kind of attachment or urgency for anyone that i felt for Ayala not even her grandmother whom i once  thought myself  so desperately in love with

*********************

Days later i finally arrived at the palace. I charged into the castle searching urgently  for Rykell unconcerned with formalities or propriety; time was of the essence

The king appeared looking at me with alarm; i was certain my appearance was cause for it, I had taken no time to bathe or groom, i didn't care now for such things. Ayala was in trouble she needed aid and soon i feared it would be too late

"Come" he said a soon as he approached. he ushered me into his private study calling for Emil who soon joined us

Once i told them both all i had learned and knew from the finder. They seemed just as confused and stunned as i had been but thankfully didn't comment on any ot it. Rykell seemed to only care that Ayala was in danger

He summoned his advisor and ordered him to bring troops to leave for battle  immediately. THen he commanded me to rest, eat, bath and refresh

I hated the idea but i knew he was right i needed to replenish my strength that i had all but depleted in finding the Finder and returning post haste

I ate as much as i could, took a long soak and brushed my long red locs out impatiently. i never had much patience for grooming. As i did i recalled how Ayala often stared at my hair. She loved it i knew. Thinking about that i took more care to brush it and tame it. A small smile played on my lips at the thought that she would be back home once again soon; admiring my fiery tresses.

That night I slept fretfully. Memories and thoughts of Ayla rushed in and out of my mind. Dreams and desires running rampant through me

*****************

The next day we stood outside the palace doors watching as an assembly of warriors marched and stood before us

I held in my grin of satisfaction and pride looking at the men whom i trained standing before me ready for battle

It wasn't even half of what the fae army possessed

I was proud to say that of all races known, our army had always been the most formidable. In numbers and strength

All the men looked as  strong and fierce as i remembered. I looked to King Rykell as he stood beside Emil. He  held Ayala's son in his arms protectively

I stared at his tiny face intently reaching to caress his small cheek. I willed him to know that i would bring his mother back safely to him even if it costs me my very own  life

King Rykell watched me with Ayala's son an unreadable look on his face that he failed to hide

"Bring her back Sinik" Rykell said Simply more a command then he probably meant it to be

I understood though. He was speaking not only as a king whom needed its heir, but an uncle whom loved his niece; the last living piece of his beloved sister

I nodded stepping down toward my men my gaze glancing back to Emil. he watched me with a stern expression matching my own; neither of us had to say  a word he knew what i expected

Protect Taylen or die trying

I jumped atop my stead hurriedly. it neighed loudly throwing its hooved into the air and then took off. I could hear my army following at my back, the heavy pounding of hooves vibrating the ground

We charged into the night my visions and thoughts of Ayla fueling my fury and vengeance. Knowing what i now knew I  would do anything to see Ayla returned to me.

She was mine.

Mine to protect

Mine to love

And I would end that bastard who stole her and sought to claim her. I would bring her back where she belonged or i would die in the endeavor

Once i did Nothing would ever separate us again................
