Little (y/n) skipped through the pavement alongside her neighbourhood, both her hands carrying small shopping bags full of homemade food. She made her way to the Minamoto residence while humming, excitement and anticipation visible on her face.

I can't wait to have a garden picnic with Teru!

Her small steps made its way to cross the empty street and towards the Minamoto household, but she slowed down once she saw Teru standing in front of the entrance door with one of his house steward. They looked like they were in the middle of a serious conversation, so (y/n) hid behind the intersection wall of the house where they couldn't see her.

"When are you going to tell her the truth, young master Teru? It seems to me that you are close to Miss (y/n), that you trust her and value her feelings more than anyone else."

She then heard Teru sigh. "(y/n) is special to me in a way, yes, but my affection for her does not exceed the borderline of friends. Whether I tell her about the Minamoto family background, it's up for me to decide. And lastly, I don't want to hear you speaking of this matter anymore. Understood?"

There was a short pause before the steward replied to him. "Understood."

Silence followed after that.

(y/n) peeked from behind the wall out of curiosity, and came out when she saw they were no longer there. She took a deep breath before walking towards the entrance door, trying to pretend as if nothing happened.

"(y/n)!" Teru greeted the younger girl with his usual friendly smile, making her wonder if his serious expression she saw a few minutes earlier was an illusion. "Are we going to have a garden picnic today?"

(y/n) nodded. Teru had promised her that they could have a garden picnic with just the two of them if she got a good score on her piano exam which happened earlier on the week. And she did. "I brought a lot of food... would you like to try some?"

"Of course!" He said, holding (y/n)'s hand and leading her to a small gazebo in the backyard. "I promised you, didn't I?"

(y/n) blushed as she felt her heartbeat increasing rapidly. Does Teru even realize that he's still holding my hand?

"Mhm! Your mom's homemade cooking is always delicious, (y/n)!" Teru said excitedly with his mouth full of food as both of them sat in the gazebo, making (y/n) giggle from seeing his puffing cheeks. He could be adorable sometimes, even though he's older than me...

"You shouldn't talk while you eat, Teru-kun!" said the girl between her set of giggles.

"But it's the truth! And you know... if you inherit her talent in cooking, you're going to be a great wife someday!"

(y/n)'s cheeks flushed deeper than it already was, and she looked down. "A great... wife...?"

"Yeah!" Teru nodded. "Whoever it is that will be your husband is sooo lucky! If only it weren't for my family's background一"

As if realizing his mistake, the older boy stopped talking mid-sentence. (y/n) tilted her head slightly to one side, curious about what he was going to say. "'Family's background'? What about it?"

"N-no, it's nothing..."

Teru scratched the back of his head while saying so, a natural gesture he usually made when he wasn't telling the truth. (y/n) had gotten used to this habit of his, and she wanted to pester him to tell the truth, but she didn't.

Because she believed that Teru would never hide something from her.

Because she believed in him.
