NEVER MIND
ʚ chapter ten ɞ
———————————

"This is ridiculous!" Annie pointed to the locked door. Annie thought Asher was kidding. He couldn't really keep her from leaving, could he?

The little side table their keys used to be on was empty. "I'm protecting you." Asher said. His voice was too calm for Annie's liking.

"Protecting me? Excuse me, what?! I don't and won't ever need your protection." Annie didn't have many options. She grabbed her phone from her back pocket to call her mother, but she got interrupted by Asher snatching the phone out of her hand.

Annie was quick enough to snatch it back and lock herself up in her room. The call with her mother was unsteady at first. Try to explain why her best friend made out with her sister and now she got locked up herself. Her mother gave in eventually and made her way over to Annie's house.

"Annie why did you lock the door? We can talk about this, like adults. Please? At least just unlock the door." Annie was furious. He wants Annie to unlock her door while he is keeping Annie hostage in her own house?

"If I unlock my door, will you unlock the front door?" Annie knew asking him was useless but she needed to keep him busy while her mother made her way over to her house.

"It's for protection, Annie."

"Nonsense. You are afraid you will lose me if I stay away from you for too long, I know you Asher and don't try convincing me otherwise."

The other side of the door stayed quiet. He knew she was right; he had always been afraid of losing her. But how couldn't he? She meant everything to her, he didn't want to lose her.

He heard the front door unlock. This was it then, Annie would leave and he will be all on his own. He saw Annie's mother walk through the hallway, coming closer with every step she made.

The look on her face told him to stay away from her as much as possible. Hayley waddled closely behind her mother. If it wasn't for her little legs he might not have noticed her.

"Annie open up. It's me, your mother, and I have Hayley with me too." Her words seem to have done wonders. The door Asher desperately tried to open earlier, now opened within seconds. "Pack your bags, you're staying with us for a while."

Hayley and her mother welcomed themselves in Annie's room. Annie held eye contact with Asher until her mother slammed the door in his face.

He knew he was powerless. Whatever he tried, everything seemed to work counterproductive. He let himself slide down the wall opposite from Annie's door. All those years of friendship have gone to waste with one simple kiss.

Asher knew Annie long enough to know that she takes ages to pack her bags. So instead of waiting in front of her door, he got up and made himself a cup of tea. Tea always calmed him down whenever he was upset.

To his surprise, Annie stood in front of him within five minutes. He was even more surprised at the fact that she was alone. "I'm here to say goodbye." She said.

He just nodded. He didn't want to look at her; he was too afraid he would miss her more than he already did. He thought that if he kept his eyes on his tea cup, he wouldn't have to see the sadness in her eyes. He can't handle seeing Annie sad.
