~Bug Guts~
I sat up in my bed a cold sweat running down my back my breath coming out in short spurts. I glanced around confirming my surroundings. I sighed deeply placing a hand against my forehead.
Again, my breath became ragged as I remembered the vivid scene from my dream. I bit my lip holding back a sob. I threw my blanket to the side dashing out of my room. My dad. I needed my dad.
The short hallway seemed to take longer than usual to cross. The moonlight cast spine-chilling shadows across the wood floor. I opened my dads bedroom door and slammed it behind me.
"(Y/N)?" My dad mumbled groggily.
"Dad..." I whined jumping into his bed.
"What's wrong hun?" He sat up rubbing his eyes. All the emotions I'd been holding back rushed forward with such force that I began to sob. I told him everything.
The Next Day
"(Y/N). Time to get up."
I rolled over hugging the blankets of my dads bed tighter against myself. "I don't wanna."
"You have to go to school silly." My dad reached down tickling my ribs. I jolted away from him laughing.
"Ok, ok." I sat up rubbing my puffy eyes. Hopefully Felix and David didn't ask. Or literally anyone else.
After getting dressed and eating cereal. I was ready to meet up with Felix and David for school. I peeked out the kitchen window checking the weather. Wow! Just my luck it was raining...again. All it does is rain.
I shook the negative thoughts out of my mind and dumped my bowl in the sink. Hopefully the weather would get better and today would be a good day. I reached into the coat closet searching for my hoodie but found nothing. Damn it! I slapped my forehead remembering I'd left it at David's.
I grabbed my backpack and sprinted up the stairs to my room. David's alien hoodie was strewn onto my floor. I shoved it into my backpack checking my phone in the process. I remembered texting him last night about my shirt and hoodie.
(Y/N): I left my clothes at ur house can u bring them to school tmrw?
David: Sure I'll try to remember lol
I rolled my eyes smiling and zipped up my backpack. Crap, I was gonna be late if I didn't hurry. I opened my closet looking for another hoodie to wear. Felix's would have to do. It was an old one he'd left at my house ages ago.
I pulled it over my head hastily fixing my hair. I slung my backpack over my shoulder and dashed back down the stairs. "Bye dad. Love you!" I shouted closing the front door before he had a chance to respond.
The hood of Felix's hoodie protecting me. I hopped on my bike. Just as I'd hoped the rain had calmed down a bit.
I pedaled towards our usual meetup place. The dumpsters at the cross road. I hated the rain because it usually brought storms, but this morning it was kind of peaceful.
Until a loud scream almost made me fall off my bike. I pedaled faster the scream coming from our meetup place.
"NO! NO! NO!" I jumped off my bike throwing it to the side realizing it was Felix who was screaming. My protective hood fell back off of my head the rain striking my face.
"Felix!" I shouted out of breath. I rounded the dumpster he was sitting on top of, keeling over. "Are...are...you ok?" I stood up straight brushing the wet hair off my face. He looked up at me blushing.
"I-I...the son of satan is down there!" He cringed pulling his legs closer to his chest. I raised an eyebrow bending down to check under the dumpster. Nothing, but a cockroach.
Felix screamed again backing away. Two more cockroaches crawled out from under the dumpster joining the first. I stomped around trying to kill them. Finally I got one. Bug guts on my new shoes.
Felix hopped down from the dumpster brushing himself off. "Man, those disgusting cockroaches. I can't stand them." I narrowed my eyebrows annoyed.
"A thanks would be nice..." I mumbled. Felix smirked reaching over to punch my shoulder.
"Wait..." He looked down at my hoodie. "Is that mine?"
"Yep. I left mine at David's remember. Speaking of him where is he?" Felix smiled pridefully. "Why are you so happy I'm wearing your hoodie?"
"I'm not." He blushed pulling my hood back up so it was covering my eyes.
"Hey guys! Sorry I'm kinda late." I turned at the sound of David's voice noticing something on the ground.
"Look Felix. More cockroaches!" He jumped behind me hissing.
"Weird. They're all walking in a line" David pointed at them tilting his head.
"I don't care." Felix gritted his teeth. "Let's go."
"There all going to the farm." I followed the line of cockroaches with my eyes to the building at the end of the street.
"Maybe there's something dead inside." Felix's mood instantly changed as he tried to scare David.
"I'll go look, give me a second." David stepped forward towards the farm Felix's assumption not having an effect on him at all.
"Wait. We're gonna be late to school!" I reached towards David trying to stop him.
"It'll only take a minute." He grinned. I sighed. No use trying to stop him. Felix nudged me shrugging. David stuck his head in the window glancing around.
Beside me Felix shivered and turned to me, annoyed with David. "This guy...David c'mon! We're gonna get sick standing here." I sniffed and shivered.
"Okay! I'm coming, don't worry!" David turned away from the farm heading back towards us. Suddenly he stopped his eyes glowing a golden color. He spun around as if he'd heard something. I stayed silent, confused by David's weird behavior.
"DAVID!" Felix screamed bloody murder next to me. "What the hell are you doing?" God, this kid has no patience.
"Sorry. I thought I heard knocking, but there's nothing there."
"It was probably just rain." I spoke ignoring the feeling of dread crawling up my spine.
"No! It sounded like a person." David glanced back at the window.
"Who? A ghost? You've always had a vivid imagination. Your just imagining things because of the show from yesterday." Felix rolled his eyes.
"I guess." David deflated looking down at his feet. I slapped Felix's arm giving him a dirty look. Too far.
"Come on David, were gonna be late for school." Felix and I headed towards our bikes by the dumpster.
"Okay."
And with that, we headed towards school. Even though Felix and I don't believe in ghosts or demons the feeling of eyes on the back of my head as we pedaled away from the farm was unmistakable.
