~It's not Like That. Is It?~

The walk back to Felix's house for my Filas, and to drop off his old shoes, was silent. I was still shaken by what happened and so was Felix. David branched off from us with a wave and we warned him to be careful. "That was scary..." I downplayed the whole situation.

"Scary?" Felix chuckled and fumbled in his pocket for his keys.

I grinned and slipped my hands into the pockets of my hoodie. "Maybe more than scary, but..." Felix unlocked his door and held it open for me. Stepping inside I pulled his old sneakers off with my toes and tossed them in his closet.

Felix dropped his keys on the entry table and jogged into his room without bothering to take off his shoes. I waited in the entryway for him to come back with my Filas. He strolled back out into the living room waving my clean white Filas in the air. I smiled and happily snatched them from him. Crouching down I slipped them on bidding Felix goodbye. "Be careful." He warned as I opened the front door.

"When am I not?"I teased and closed the door behind me. The cold night air had me shivering my entire way home. I hated to admit it but I was scared. I mean...who wouldn't be? We'd just found a hand in the forest an hour ago. I gulped glancing around myself. Quiet. Breaking into a jog up my driveway I slammed my front door behind me and locked it.

"(Y/N)?" My dad called out. "Is that you?" He peeked his head out of his office and immediately stood up running out to me. I flinched as he grabbed me harshly by the shoulders. "Where the hell have you been?"

"Uh..." I glanced up at the clock on the wall checking the time. He was right. It was eleven on a school night and I hadn't texted him back at all for the past couple of hours. Looking back at my dad, worry lined the wrinkles on his face. All the years he'd raised me alone showed on his face. My bottom lip quivered and I jumped up wrapping my arms around his neck.

He squeezed me against him and stroked my hair. "You were with Felix and David right?" I nodded and pulled away from his embrace. "You're not in trouble. Just tell me next time." I smiled and nodded again. "Now get to bed."

I padded up the staircase to my room and closed my door behind me. No nightmares. I reminded myself and kicked off my pants leaving me in Felix's oversized sweatshirt. I snuggled into it and clicked on my night light. The light hadn't been used for years but this was an emergency. Jumping into bed my phone buzzed a string of 'dings'. They were texting on the group chat at a time like this...

I grabbed my phone off my desk and checked the group chat 'Idiots and Farts'.

Tobi: My mom just got home

The_Erix98: So what happened?

(Y/N): Hey.

Tobi: She said they didn't find the hand. It's not there wtf.

Felix: Holy shit...

The_Erix98: AHHHH! No! The hand... why?

Felix: Maybe Cody and (Y/N) were right...

Jesus. My phone slipped between my fingers falling onto my carpet. I dropped my head between my hands. The hand wasn't there? I blinked a couple of times as if I was in a daze. Finally, I snapped out of my trance and grabbed my phone off the carpet tossing it onto my nightstand. Pushing myself off my bed I flipped off the light switch and dove into the warmth of my safe bed.

I curled up into a little ball under my covers willing myself to sleep. Checking the clock for the third time I grabbed my phone off my nightstand and pulled up Felix and I's private chat.

(Y/N): Hey, ru feeling better?

Felix: I'm fine but I probably won't go to school tmrw

(Y/N): It's that bad?

Felix: Nah. I'm just being lazy. Anyways...my dad knows. He'd rather let me stay home than risk me going to school.

(Y/N): I just don't understand why you don't want to tell everyone else. I waited for another cut and dry response but to my surprise, my phone started to ring. I picked up instantly putting it on speaker.

Without a hello Felix started his rant. "What do you want me to say (Y/N)? Hey guys, my heart is messed up. I could die at any moment from now! Yay!" He cheered his voice dripping with sarcasm.

My heart stuttered in my chest and my stomach coiled with undeniable anger towards him. I could even feel my face flush and my eyes wet with angry tears. "Nothing's gonna happen okay!" I shouted, instantly regretting my outburst. Felix stayed silent as I continued my rant. "Stop being so negative!"

"I'm not negative. I'm realistic."

"I'm realistic..." I imitated him a frown forming on my lips.

"You know what I mean. I just don't feel like saying anything." He sighed moving around on the other side of the phone. "The only reason you and David know is because you two were going to find out either way."

I glanced over at the pictures on my desk. Felix's dad and my dad posing for the camera and mini Felix and I faces squished together smiling like no tomorrow. Plus the one with just the three of us. That one more recent, taken about a year ago. "I mean us three have known each other for years."

"Exactly." Felix agreed. I could picture him biting his lip comfortably seated on his bed. "And I don't have to tell the others. I'm not comfortable with them knowing."

"Alright, if they ask I'll just say you're sick. Like usual."

"I'll be fine as long as we don't do anything crazy again."

"Yeah, I guess. Oh...um-thanks for the hoodie and for helping clean my shoes." I smiled.

"Duh." He chuckled across the phone, his voice husky and sleepy.

"I wish you were here," I muttered. "I mean! Uh- I wish I could talk to you face to face."

Felix sucked in a breath. "(Y/N). You don't see me as a brother right?"

I slouched back against my headboard. "Well, I love you." I blurted out. Felix went silent on the other end. "You know what I mean!"

His laugh floated across the line making my stomach flutter. "I know. I know but (Y/N) I-" I hushed Felix as my dad popped his head into my room.

"Hon. It's twelve in the morning, get to bed."

"Sorry." I giggled and blew him a kiss goodnight. "What were you saying?" I pried once my dad closed my door.

"Nothing. I think I'm gonna head to bed." Felix yawned as my phone buzzed with another text. This time it was from David and I's separate chat.

"Oh my god!" I shouted and clamped a hand over my mouth.

"What?"

"David just texted me about something Tobi's mom found in the forest." I clicked off of Felix's call and onto the picture David had screenshotted and texted me.

"Send me a pic." Felix coaxed me. I snapped a screenshot and texted David a 'Cool beans'. Texting it to Felix I waited for his response over the phone. "A snake scale?"

"Fuck no!" I shouted into the phone. "That looks like a-"

"(Y/N)!" My dad slammed my door open. "Now it's past twelve, go to sleep!"

"Dad, I was-"

"Nope." My dad interjected.

"Goodnight." Felix chirped from the other side of the phone.

"Night Felix." My dad smiled and ended the call. Why was my dad such a sucker for my friends? I placed my phone down on my nightstand for the third time and flopped into bed. "You know. Felix would be a good husband." He tucked me in with a wink.

"Dad!" Heat crawled up my neck at the suggestion and I remembered moments ago I'd told Felix I loved him. Sure we flirted and he wanted to take me on a 'date' But it wasn't like that. Was it?
