months had passed since phoenix's trial, and things were going amazing for phoenix, he stopped taking art major and got into law after mia had convinced him that now all lawyers were the same and that he stood a chance, after all, she was surprised at how intelligent he was in law classes, don't get mia wrong, she knew phoenix was smart, but he was doing great in-law course
and the two only got closer over the years, phoenix would sneak mia in campus and hang out in his dorm room, she lent him her laws books she used to study, and even helped him out, even though he didn't really need it that much
but what really caught mia off guard, was his sudden change in his attitude, he seemed so much more, ...happier, he started to smile more around her and larry, he seemed almost excited to go to classes, he loved doing this, studying law really was his dream, mia was just happy he got his spark back
'...phoenix?'
'yeah?'
he asked as he looked up from his notes, he was studying ahead for his test next week, she thought for a moment then asked him
'..what made you get into law in the first place'
phoenix played with his pencil for a little second before speaking
'...i-i wanted to become lawyer because i wanted to save my mom from her horrible marriage, ..i had a whole plan, document everything, collect evidence, and get him arrested, ...heh, ...looked how that turned out'
he added dully as he stared off into space, mia frowned as he held his hand, phoenix didn't open up much about his mom, mia never pushed him on it, but form the small stories he told her, sounded like his mother was a truly wonderful woman
'..i never understood why she never got a divorce!, she wouldn't have died!!'
he angrily said to himself as he broke his pencil lead, he sighed as he apologized, sharpening it
'i-i'm sorry, ..i-it's a sensitive topic for me'
'it's alright, ..let's just focas on your studies'
'..r-right'
he said as he went back to his notes, they left the conversation at that, but it was never forgotten
Whole Phoenix mood was improving, sadly his habits weren't changing, Mia had caught him a few times slitting his wrists or doing something of the sort to himself, she even once caught him burning him with with a fork he had heated up
Mia always worried about him, she knew how Phoenix was treating himself want okay, if he was willing to stay in a stay in a abusive relationship because he thought he deserved it, Mia could only imagine what else he does to himself, now now he wasn't alone, she was their to help him
