It was the talk of the glee club.

Eventually Eva raised her hand and asked the big question. "Mr. Anderson, are you and Mr. Hummel dating?"

"No, we aren't," Blaine responded, cheeks turning pink all the same. "We're friends."

"You went out for dinner at Breadstix, I saw you there," another spoke up.

"Friends can go out for dinner. Not that it's your business, but we were getting to know each other since we'll be working together," Kurt said mildly. He was clearly more used to dealing with rumors about him than Blaine was.

"Mr. Hummel, are you gay?" Max blurted out, almost before he'd finished talking.

Kurt paused. "Why did you think people called me Lady Hummel?" he asked, unable to help it.

The boy stopped, it finally dawning on him that it was an insult and not nickname. "That's cruel! How come my dad called you that? Doesn't he know?"

He didn't want to answer, but Max's eyes pleaded for him to tell the truth. "He does. He's actually the first person who started calling me it."

"He was mean to you." It wasn't a question. "That's why you didn't get along. 'Cus he was mean."

Kurt didn't say anything, but that was answer enough.
