A dance

After the guard had alerted the king, and the king accepted, Lukas and Mathias had set off towards the forest, with two horses which the king let them borrow.
Lukas had wanted to stop by his cottage at first, to explain the situation to Tino and his brother Emil, but Mathias had insisted they should head straight for the mountains. After that, Lukas had mostly kept his mouth shut, while the dane was thinking of a way to strike up a conversation. And that's where we are now.

"Lukas! Hey Lukas!"
Mathias' voice suddenly snapped Lukas back to reality. He had let his thoughts wander, yet again. "..hm?" He muttered, as he turned his gaze to look at the Dane who had so desperately been trying to get his attention. "When we get there, how do you think we'll rescue the princess? Do you think we have to kill the troll? What if we die? What if the princess isn't even there?"
Being overwhelmed by all the questions, Lukas once again turned his attention to the road in front of them. According to the fairytale, trolls will die if they come in contact with the sun. So as far as his knowledge would reach, he assumed they'd have to lure the troll out of the mountain and into the daylight.. somehow.
"Hello? Lukas?" Mathias' voice yet again dragged Lukas back down to earth. "Were you even listening?"
Keeping his expressionless composure, Lukas slightly nodded. "You were asking me how we'd kill the troll."
Realising that Lukas had actually listened, Mathias grinned widely, flashing his teeth. "So you did listen! I was afraid you had just straight out ignored me!" He exclaimed.
'I wish I could', Lukas thought to himself. He's just like a puppy.

They kept traveling further and further away from the town, when Lukas noticed the sun had started to set. It gave him flashbacks from the day he had been arrested, and for a second, he was reminded of his sick brother at home. Feeling his eyes starting to well up, he shook his head harshly in frustration, before taking a deep breath.
Mathias had taken notice of this, but decided not to question it. Instead, he tried to bring up another subject, to maybe get to know each other a little better. "Not to be rude, but-" The dane paused as the norwegian turned his attention to him. "But, how old are you exactly?"
Taken aback by the question, Lukas slightly stumbled on his words, as he muttered and answer. "I'm 21."
"Really?" Mathias asked, a little surprised. He had expected him to be around 18, at the max.
The norwegian was now looking at him, as if he were awaiting a response. Not knowing what Lukas had asked for, he quickly responded "22," in hopes that he had asked for his age. Seeing as Lukas nodded, and turned his attention back on the road, made him relieved, as he also looked back in front of him. That's when he, also, noticed the sun was on it's way down. "We should try and see if we can find an inn somewhere nearby, or at least some place to sleep.." he said thoughtfully, continuing to look at the road.
"You're right. It's getting dark." Lukas responded. They hurried up a bit, their horses hurrying along the roads.

As the two people ventured along the roads, in search of an inn, the sun seemed to set faster than before. Just when they thought they would have to sleep outside, in the dark and dangerous forest, they could hear music coming up from further along the road. Following the music, they eventually found an inn, where a bar at the first floor was beaming out music as people were dancing and drinking. The Dane hurried up into the inn, while the Norwegian waited outside with the horses.

Lukas stood outside the ever so loud inn, waiting for Mathias to come back and tell him where he could set the horses. After what seemed like an eternity, the dane finally came back outside, and they set their horses in a stable, along with other horses, where they'd be cared for during the night. Walking back towards the inn, Lukas couldn't help but wonder what had taken Mathias so long. Coming to a conclusion it was just a lot of people there, he pushed the thought away, deciding on not to worry now. He was tired, unlike Mathias, who really wanted to go dancing before they went to sleep.

Walking inside the inn, Lukas asked Mathias for the way to whatever room they had been assigned to.
"What do you mean?" Mathias asked. He had hoped Lukas would want to stay up a bit, and maybe have a drink and dance.
"I want to go to sleep." The norwegian simply said. "We have to get up early tomorrow."
"No one decides that, we have lots of time to find the princess! Besides, wouldn't you like to have some fun before we die? Come on!" Mathias enthusiastically tried convincing the norwegian. But when Lukas shook his head, he still didn't want to give up.
"Please? Just one single dance, and we can go to sleep. Just one?" He begged, giving Lukas the best puppy eyes he could manage. He practically failed, ending up looking like his eyes were about to pop out of his skull.
Sighing, the norwegian finally gave in. "Fine. One dance," he said. Mathias practically beamed in excitement, grabbing ahold of Lukas' arm and dragging him over to the crowd of people.

Immediately regretting his choices, Lukas knew there was no going back now.
The first few steps and turns were awkward, as he and the tall dane tried to get used to the dancing. He was about to give up and ask Mathias for the directions to their room again, when the music suddenly changed.
It got quicker, and more up-beat. Whoever was playing the fiddle, must certainly have noticed it getting dull in here, because they took the lead, making the music way more interesting.
Deciding he'd give dancing another try, he started to move along to the music with Mathias. Placing their steps around, spinning, and at a point, they seemed so close Lukas could practically smell Mathias' breath. Then they were pulled apart yet again, and the dance kept going. It was actually quite fun.
Feeling a smile tugging at the edges of his lips, Lukas let out a laugh of happiness. It was the first time he'd laughed in awhile, and he even surprised himself by it. Noticing Mathias also grinning now, Lukas decided to let himself loose.

They danced, laughed, and even took a couple o' drinks, for what was hours, but only felt like a few minutes. What was supposed to be only one dance turned into fifteen, and maybe even more than that. It wasn't until late at night they both actually went to their room, still with a slight smile from both of them.
As they got into each of their separate beds, the two of them couldn't help but wonder what had just happened. They stayed like that for awhile, none of them daring to break the silence.
And so, they fell asleep.
