The New and Old Night Pride fought together, eventually kicking out Skylor's dad's army. Kion was proud of Kai and his guard, but Skylor knew something was wrong,"wait, where's my Dad"she said worrying."wait, THE TREE"said Kai realizing what was going to happen.Everyone ran back to the tree of life, they were only halfway there, but it was too late, the tree of life was set on fire, and since it was combustible (as established in the first book), Parts of the tree blew up and set fires all over the kingdom. Everyone stood there and just watched in horror, but for Rani, it was a reminder of her childhood, the day she got separated from everything,"no no no, not again"she whispered to herself as her ears flopped down and started to tear up, Kion nuzzled her to comfort her,"its alright, i'm here"he said to her. "apparently it is, i just called him dad, I didn't know his name until now"said Skylor.

Kai Led his Guard into the fields to rescue as many animals as possible, but the flames and Kondo's army were too much. Kai had a hard time breathing with the smoke, but he had to keep on going.
