It's been days since you last saw Ariana. She won't answer your calls and every text you send her just gets left on read. Although you're not really surprised.
The guilt has been eating away at you since that night. You're not proud of what you did and looking back you realize how stupid it was to even think she'd get a laugh out of it.
She has every right to be acting the way she is. You feel that you deserve it. But still, you need her to know how sorry you truly are. Even if she couldn't find it in her to forgive you, you still wanted to take the chance and be honest with her.
So you grabbed your keys and drove over to Courtney's, trying to swallow the weight of your heavy heart and the anxiety that was eating away at you.
You knocked on the door and waited for an answer. You wondered if you'd even get one. Because if the shoe was on the other foot you know that your friends would never let Ariana inside until you were ready to talk.
But, alas, Courtney opened the door for you. She had her arms crossed and an angry expression on her face. "Is Ariana still here?" She looked towards the staircase then back at you with a heavy sigh. "Yeah. Look, y/n, I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm gonna let you in and let you talk to her but what you did was really not cool. Why would you ever think it was funny?"
You lowered your head in shame and shrugged your heavy shoulders. "I don't know. I guess I had a lapse in judgment." You looked up at Courtney and bit the inside of your cheek. "I know I fucked up. I know she's mad and she has every right to be, and so do you. Hell, I'm mad at myself. But I just want her to know that I'm sorry and that I didn't mean for things to be like this. Even if she decides she can't move on. I'd understand that. I'm not expecting forgiveness. Just a chance to tell her that I'm terribly sorry and I've regretted it every day since I did it."
You were close to shedding tears but you tried hard not to let them fall. Courtney silently nodded her head and stepped aside for you to walk in. "She's on the room furthest down the hall. Good luck." She said before walking to the kitchen and allowing you to walk upstairs.
You stood outside of the door for a minute with your hand raised. You wanted to knock, you really did. But everything that you had planned to say had left your anxious brain. You debated on leaving and letting her come to you when she was ready to talk, but you were afraid that day wouldn't ever come.
So with your heart on your sleeve and a lump in your throat, you let your hand fall against the door. You waited a minute before the door opened and when you saw the sad look in her eyes your heart shattered. the guilt came washing back over you, as it's done for the past few nights.
"Can I come in?" She wordlessly walked to the bed and sat down on it. You took a seat next to her and held your breath for a few seconds. You didn't know what to say. Looking at her now you became even angrier with yourself for pulling that stupid prank. Because she was upset, and it was all your fault.
"Ari, I can't even begin to tell you how horrible I feel for pulling that prank. It wasn't funny. It was stupid and immature and I should've seen how scary it would be for you. I know you're mad at me. I deserve it. I deserve the silent treatment and I deserve for every call or text that I make to you to be ignored. I don't even know why you or Courtney let me in here-"
You paused and took a deep breath. She still hadn't looked at you.
"Please just know that I'm sorry. I'm sorry I ever thought this would be funny. I'm sorry I didn't think about the consequences. I'm sorry that I hurt you and ruined our relationship by pulling this dumb prank. I'm sorry for my lapse in judgment... I'm sorry."
You were only met with silence. At least, for a few minutes.
"I just want you to think about how you would've felt if I had done that to you. What if the shoe had been on the other foot? What if I faked being dead? Being covered in fake blood? You'd be terrified."
You nodded.
"I just get so scared of losing you sometimes. I know how my job is and I know the scary things it can come along with. I was so scared when I saw you like that, y/n. I thought you were really hurt and that freaked me out because what am I supposed to do without you? How do I go on with my life without you? I couldn't bear it. I could never bear losing you."
She turned her head, tears running down her cheeks making your own fall, too.
"I'm sorry."
She took your hand and squeezed it. "I know. That's why I wanna put this behind us. I just don't ever want anything like that to ever happen again, okay? No more pranks for a while."
You laughed and put your head on her shoulder. "Trust me. After this, I don't think I'll ever pull any more pranks again."
Ariana wrapped her arms around you with a smile. "It feels good to hold you again," She mumbled and planted a kiss to your head, a small reassurance that everything was okay now.
