Monse's POV

"Monse can we talk ?" Jamal asks over the phone

"Isn't that what we are doing right now?" I roll my eyes

"I feel like this would be best in person," he sighs

"Jamal it's 2am," I yawn

"I I I just need a friend right now," his voice breaks. Something's up for sure.

"Meet me at the park on fifth in ten," I concede.

I pull on a hoodie and wait for Jamal at the park.

After a few minutes he approaches me looking like a whole mess.

"We broke up," he sighs as he sinks into the bench.

"What why?" I quiz. He seemed so happy with her.

"Because she didn't love me, ever. And instead of telling me she started sleeping with some dude from her office. Apparently it started when I left for that dig," he frowns

" Oh hell no," I feel myself getting angry

"It's not worth getting angry about Mon. I knew she wasn't my forever but it was nice to have someone," he shrugs

"Jamal you deserve so much more than just having someone who treats you like that," I rub his shoulder.

"Do I really deserve it? Everyone else is in a stable relationship but here I am single again. What is wrong with me?" he pleads for an answer.

"J there's nothing wrong with you. She wasn't the one and that's okay. You're an amazing guy and when it's meant to be it will happen," I try to console him

"What if I let my meant to be slip away?" He sighs

"She wasn't your meant to be if she treated you like that," I try to sway him.

"No no not her, Kendra," Jamal frowns

"Who? Boy are you still talking about your imaginary friend?" I squint

"That was Kenny! Kendra is the girl from the summer before you left. She was homeschooled and we had sex for one of her classes. Wait no that sounds bad but we did hook up," he tries to explain

"Your stalker bae?" I try to keep up

"She wasn't really a stalker but yes!" He yells

"What even happened with her?" I wondered out loud.

"Timing was off and then she went to Boston for school. She even hit me up a few weeks ago," he smiles.

"Well if that's something you would like to explore just make sure she's not a rebound. That wouldn't be fair to either of you," I point out.

"You're right. Thanks for listening Mon," he hugs me

"No prob, I know we haven't hung out much since I came back but this was nice," I smile
