Chapter 4: Lurking Shadows

I grew up in a family of four only; my father, mother, and my sister Courtney. The houses and our neighbors were all meters away from ours, which is why I have no other friends, aside from my sister.

Nasa gitna ng kawalan ang bahay namin at malayo talaga sa kabihasnan, that's why I don't have any friends or someone to talk to that have the same age as mine. Sometimes, when we happen to visit some parts of the town and regions in Corinthia, I noticed that the establishments and other houses do have distances in between, hindi tulad dito sa Peirronia na halos dikit-dikit lahat ng mga bahay, pwera lang sa mga private properties and villages.

With that, it became hard for me to interact and trust other people. Halos wala talaga akong ibang nakakasalamuha noon bukod sa tatlong pamilya na meron ako.

But despite all of that, I was never taught to disregard others who need saving, who need help. If I know that they need it, I will gladly lend a hand.

In Sasha's case, I know that I just met her once and even saved her that time. I don't really know who she is. Ang alam ko lang ay galing siya sa kaharian ng Maldovia, gaya nang sinabi niya sa akin noong una kaming nagkita. At pumunta siya dito sa Peirronia sa dahilan na hindi niya kayang sabihin sa akin.

I don't trust her, she's just a mere stranger to me. But seeing her being captured by those ruthless royal guards, hindi ako nagdalawang-isip na puntahan siya dito at tulungang tumakas, especially with what I heard a while ago.

We were currently escaping through the open window where I used to enter the facility. Nakalabas na siya at palabas pa lang ako nang makarinig ako ng mga papalapit na yabag, mukhang napansin na nila ang pagkawala ni Sasha.

Saktong pagkalabas ako ay ang pagliko ng mga kawal sa pwesto ko. Before they even got to run at my direction and realize the situation, I gave them my deadliest glare before I covered the view with my cloak.

Pagtalon ko sa baba ay nakita ko si Sasha na tumatakbo na palayo ng facility. Bago ako tumakbo ay in-activate ko ang invisibility ko bago ako tumakbo paalis. Lumingon pa ako sa bintanang pinag-labasan ko at nakita ang mga kawal na hinahanap ako sa ibaba.

I smirked and turned my head on the road. Fools.

Nakita ko si Sasha na nakahinto sa may bandang boundary ng Erdan. Nilapitan ko siya at saka nagsalita.

"You're not safe here. Come with me." Hindi ko na siya hinintay sumagot at nauna nang maglakad sa kanya.

"Wait lang naman!" I heard her coping up.

Dumaan kami sa mga masisikip at madidilim na eskinita para hindi kami maka-agaw ng pansin, dahil paniguradong pinag-hahanap na si Sasha ngayon, pati na rin ako na tinulungan siyang tumakas.
