Chapter 8: Pursuit

Being a part of a rebel group, as one would expect, made me encounter a lot of powerful and wealthy families, especially government officials. It was our mission to put them in their demise, or at least do something that they deserved. We ought to destroy them.

But of course, not all of our missions were successful. Most of the time, we fail. Sometimes, we just screwed things up. We're not just dealing with authorities, but also mages. Given that they have their positions and money, it's not impossible for them to be powerful, or to have themselves trained and entered the academy. Kaya hindi na ako magtataka kung ang mga humahabol sa akin ay isa sa mga misyon ko dati na hindi nagtagumpay.

Ever since the incident at Valenveil, I almost beat up myself for being scared and almost crying in front of this guy. He just witnessed me make a fool of myself that night, falling on my knees, trembling and feared for my life. But, if it wasn't for him getting me out of that place, I can't picture myself escaping alive. But how did he do that?

I glared at him and was about to utter something when he hushed me. "They're still here." He whispered, I can almost feel his breath reaching my skin.

Kahit labag sa loob ko, hindi na rin ako nagsalita, pero nanatili ang masamang tingin ko sa kanya, dahil ayoko ring mahuli kami.

But a lot of questions were already circling in my mind. Why is he here? May humahabol din ba sa kanya? Hinahabol din ba siya ng mga humahabol sa akin? If that's the case, then is he also a part of Vereilles? Or is there another reason? Who is this guy, really?

Gustong-gusto ko na itanong sa kanya iyan, but we're still in a rough situation, and I think my questions can wait.

Maya-maya pa ay naramdaman namin ang sandaling pagtahimik ng paligid at ang pagka-wala ng mga presensya, kaya naman ay naghintay muna kami ng ilang minuto bago kami umalis sa pwesto namin.

"That was close." He said and chuckled. Napatingin naman siya sa akin nang maramdaman niyang nakatingin ako sa kanya. "Maho-hotseat na ba ako?"

I maintained a distance from him because I still don't know him, and what he is doing here in the forest. He's not often at town, and the only time that I saw him there was when I first saw him, which means he's not from around here. And although I met him twice and saved me once, he's still a stranger to me.

"First of all, who are you, really? What are you doing here? Were you being chased? By whom?" Sunod-sunod 'kong tanong sa kanya. I skipped the part about him being a rebel because I might blow my cover with that question.

Mas lalong sumama ang tingin ko sa kanya. I swung my arm to prepare for an attack if he ever did something funny, or if he's someone I need to be more careful.

"Sumagot ka na bago pa kita i-yelo dyan."

Binaba naman niya ang kanyang kamay, ngunit hindi pa rin mawawala ang mga nakakainis na ngiti sa mukha niya. He even placed his hands on his pockets, as if he's just in a casual situation and a casual place, facing a normal person. Although I'm just a normal mage, isn't he also aware of me?
