Sonic and Amelia had reached the next area.
"So, we're here now, right?" Sonic asked.
"Yes. This is ..., one of Sark's strongholds, as well as where two of your friends are being held." Amelia replied.
Then, a noise was heard below the impending staircase.
"What was that?" Amelia reacted.
"It sounded like someone's down there!" Sonic took off down the stairs.
"Sonic, wait! It could be Sark!" Amelia ran after him.
Sonic quickly found the source of the noise and hid behind a pillar.
"Eggman?" Sonic asked, shocked.
The evil scientist was surrounded by a bunch of Flickies, as well as Sark Tails.
"Surrender, old man! You have no chance!" Sark Tails said.
"Oh, boy. Didn't think I would ever try to save Eggman again." Sonic sighed as he walked out. "Ok, nerd, back off."
"You? You actually made it here?" Sark Tails asked, surprised.
"Sonic?" Eggman said.
"Yes, I made it." Sonic smirked. "Don't act so surprised."
"Maybe Sark was right about you. You must be lucky. Very lucky." Sark Tails stated.
"Maybe, but I wouldn't call it luck." Sonic bragged.
"I would." Eggman put in.
"Doesn't it seem like the good guy always gets his way?" Sark Tails pointed out.
"Yes, very true. I hate that." Eggman added.
"Damn it, Eggman, who's side are you on, anyway?" Sonic snapped.
"I don't pick sides."
"Good enough."
Sonic used Sonic Wind to blow the evil Flickies away.
"We will face off, Sonic. Proceed down the stairs to fight me." Sark Tails said as he made his way down the said staircase.
"Sonic, it could be a trap. We should proceed with caution." Amelia pointed out.
Sonic nodded.
"I'm coming, too." Eggman said.
"No, you're not. For all I know, you're helping them. Plus, you're my nemesis." Sonic pointed out.
"True, but I'm not staying here alone in this place."
"Ugh, fine, but the first time you do something to sabotage me, I'll homing attack you myself." Sonic stated.
"Deal." Eggman nodded.
The three proceeded further down the stairs after Sark Tails. As they progressed onward, the area got darker and darker until it was completely pitch black.
"I can't see a thing." Amelia said.
"Me either." Sonic added.
"It adds to the tension and surprise of the looming battle." Eggman put it.
"That is true." Sonic said.
"Guys, look!" Amelia pointed forward.
There was a room with light ahead.
"He's in there, isn't he?" Sonic asked.
"Yes, he is, and most likely has a trap ready."
Sark Tails appeared.
"Come on in, if you dare." He teased. "Two of your best friends are awaiting you."
Sonic smirked.
"Well, let's not delay the party any further."
He ran into the room.
"Be careful, Sonic!" Amelia called out to him.
