"Well, you're all moved in." Mom says with a sigh.
Her and Dad stand at the door way while Hayden finishes hanging a mirror in my dorm.
"We're so proud of you, Lila." Dad says, and mom nods.
"We love you so much."
"I love you guys too." I hug them both.
Mom sighs again and I can tell she wants to cry.
"It's okay, mom, I'll be home a lot."
Dad rubs her shoulder. "We should go, Sandra."
Mom nods. I hug both parents again.
"Bye sweetie." Mom says.
"You stay out of trouble up here." Dad says.
"We love you so much. Bye now, really." Mom smiles, and they leave the dorm.
Hayden comes up behind me. "This is it?"
I want to cry, but I don't. "I'm gonna miss you." I bury my face in his chest.
"I'll miss you more." He kisses the top of my head. "But we'll FaceTime all the time. And we'll see each other every chance we get."
I nod. "You're right."
"It's time for me to go."
I kiss him. "I love you."
"I love you, too. Be careful. Stay safe."
"You sound like my mom." I laugh.
He shrugs and laughs too. "Just trying to protect you."
I hug him one more time, and he leaves me too. I shut the door, and flop down on my bedspread in my newly decorated room. I'm all alone, for the first time in my life.
