John's POV

John gathered Alex's soft brown hair in his hands, tying it off in a low ponytail. "There," he smiled, running his fingers through Alex's hair one last time and placing the cap on the shorter boy's head.

Alex turned around to face him with a blush, messing with the blue fabric of his gown. "Are you still nervous?" John asked, looking down at Alex softly. Alex looked up at him and shrugged.

"All that's going to happen is that we're going to walk the stage and get our diplomas, then move our tassels and throw our caps. There's nothing to worry about."

I know, Alex frowned, reaching up to adjust the collar of John's gown. He fiddled with it for a second before resting his hand gently on John's neck. They stayed like that for a moment, just staring into each other's eyes. (Someone pleaaase draw this. PM me and then u can email the drawing to me)

Finally, John seemed to gather up his courage. "Alex, I—"

"Boys! It's time to go!" came the call from downstairs. The boys both sighed, stepping out of Alex's room and heading downstairs.

John was getting so sick and tired of waiting for the right moment to tell Alex how he feels. Each and every day it became harder and harder not to just randomly blurt it to him. He'd only really know Alex for about a month, but they'd already been through so much together.

"You two look so handsome!" Mrs. Washington gushed, looking at the boys in their cap and gowns. They blushed and thanked her hurriedly, in a rush to get in the car.

The ride there was silent, both boys too nervous to make conversation.

When they arrived at the school, the boys hurried off towards the room where their fellow students were. Everybody was being lined up alphabetically so that they could be seated correctly.

"Hey," John said, grabbing Alex's hand gently in his own before they got inside. "Try and enjoy this, okay? You only graduate high school once." Alex nodded and they walked inside.

"Hamilton!" said Mr. Ploker, their math teacher, "You're over here." He pointed to a spot in the line and Alex shuffled over. "Laurens, you're over here." Thankfully, John's spot was only a few people behind Alex's.

A few minutes later, the band began to play and the students walked out into the main room. The crowd of parents roared with applause as their student took their seats in front of the stage.

Washington stepped up to the podium, confidently grabbing the mic. "Ladies and gentlemen! You could've been anywhere in the world tonight but you're here with us in New York City! Are you ready for a graduation ceremony?"

The crowd yelled in agreement and he smiled, stepping back and gestures towards Mr. Adams. "Vice-principal Adams, you have the floor, sir!" Mr. Adams pouted slightly, still upset about getting demoted a few weeks ago.

"I'm Mr. Adams," he smirked proudly, "I have served this school for the past ten years as the principal! I have won many educational awards such as the Principal of The Year—"

"Sit down, John," interrupted Miss. Isabella (c'est moi), our new principal, causing the crowd to laugh at the pouting man. "Mr. Lin, would you mind taking over?"

"Not at all!" Mr. Lin chirped, jumping up and pulling out a piece of paper before clearing his throat.

"My students are the reason anything gets done. They nudge me towards promise by degrees. They are a perfect symphony of one. Our school is their most beautiful reprise. We chase the melodies that seem to find us until their finished songs and start to play."
