"I couldn't move during the previous battle because I got poisioned. I was using my breaths to try and delay the poison from circulating through my bloodstream." Muichirou explained with his usual blank face. "But a boy who tried to save me nearly lost his life, and my old memories came back. Then i got so angry that I lost control of all my emotions. I don't know how it was for (y/n), but I think my heart rate went over 200 bpm, and my body became burning hot. I think the temperature was over 39 degrees."
Shinobu looked shocked, "but can you move in that condition? That would've been life threatening.."
"Well, that's why i think it could be used as a screening test." Muichirou said with a dull expression. "Will you die, or will you not? That's probably the difference between those who have the mark and those who do not."
Amane had regained her composure and was listening intently. "A heart rate over 200 bpm and a temperature of over 39 degrees?"
"Yes." He nodded. "When Kochou-San was treating my wounds, I apparently had a fever. The temperature recorded on the thermometer was about 39 degrees. My guess is that I had the same body temperature when the mark appeared."
"Tch. So its that simple huh?" Sanemi grumbled.
"I envy the simpletons who can say this is simple." Giyuu remarked calmly.
"What?" Sanemi looked like he was going to throw something.
"Nothing." Giyuu said sarcastically.
"(Y/n). I had also heard that you had received not one mark but two." Amane said calmly. "Would this be true?"
I nodded after a moment, the room falling into silence again. "... Yes, ma'am. That would be correct."
"Wait.. How is that possible?" Iguro askes with narrowed eyes.
".. It has something to do with my biological parents." I admitted after a second. "I found out a while back that I had appeared at this estate as a baby.. And it turns out that I was rescued from Muzan.. Who is my biological father." I looked down at my lap in shame. "But because I carry his blood, I was able to learn another Breath Style.."
"And you transformed as well in the last battle." Muichirou said calmly.
Mitsuri nodded, "I noticed as well, but without that, we both definitely would've died."
"Yes. When my marks showed up, my body temporarily changed, and when the vanished, I returned to normal." I explained guiltily.
The room remained silent for a moment until Amane nodded to herself. "I'm glad that you were able to survive that last battle, and Kagaya is thrilled that you unlocked your full potential. No one is to treat you any differently than before."
"Yes ma'am." The pillars chimed back, though I could've swore I felt eyes burning into the back of my skull.
"So I guess getting this mark to appear will now be a high priority for the pillars." Shinobu said, pulling the attention away from me, which I was very greatful for.
"Agreed. Please inform Oyakata-Sama that we will do something about it, so he can be at ease." Himejima requested.
"Thank you very much." Amane nodded. "But I do have one thing to say regarding your mark training."
"What would that be?" Mitsuri asked with her head tilted in confusion.
"Those who manifested their mark, must participate. No matter who it appeared to, and there will be no exceptions." She bowed her head and my siblings followed her out of the room silently, leaving me and the pillars alone.
"Now that Amane-Dono is gone, I will take my leave." Giyuu stood as well and started to walk off.
Sanemi had a grin on his face but he seemed angry. "Woah, hold it. Don't leave just yet, man. We oughta make our future plans now, am I right?"
"No. You six can deal with this." He said dismissively.
I stood up as well and bowed my head to them before running down the hall to Kagaya's room.
"The meeting was successful. The pillars are all healthy and wish you the best." Amane said quietly. "And (y/n).. She's gotten so strong since she was last here.. I'm so proud of her."
".. I'm glad." Kagaya sounded relieved. "And, (Y/n). You can come in and see me. I'm not dead yet, you know."
I poked my head into the room and my heart hurt instantly. He wasn't in good condition. He was bed ridden, and blinded, and seemed to be struggling to breath. "H..hey Kagaya.."
"Hello, Little (y/n)." He said softly. "Come, sit with us. Lets catch up, its been a while."
I did as he asked and i sat next to his bed on the floor quietly. ".. You'll never believe the things out there, Kags.. Its incredible.."
"I can imagine." He chuckled with a wheeze. "I felt the very second you realized your past. And I'm sorry I'm not your real father, and I'm sorry we didn't find out more about you.."
"Ha.. Don't worry about it.." I said with a forced smile, my eyes watering slightly. "He may be my father.. But you're my dad. Or some shit like that..." I forced a chuckle as I wiped my face before any tears could fall.
He huffed through his nose with a soft smile, ".. I'm so glad.. Now.. Tell me about this boy you're seeing."
My face turned bright red and Amane let out a hushed chuckle. "Aw.. He must be very important to you to get this reaction! I bet he's very sweet."
I puffed out my cheeks and rubbed the back of my neck, "Inosuke? Sweet? That's hilarious! He's brash and crazy, and not the smartest, but he means well."
Kagaya lets out a knowing laugh, "oh? Well.. How did you meet this um.. Character?"
"On my way to the Final Selection. He challenged me to a fight and I kicked his ass." I said with a groan. "After that, we just kept running into eachother, so we started going on missions with the Tanjirou boy and this kid Zenitsu. And then he just, kinda grew on me. But he's a sweetie when he wants to be!"
"I'd love to meet his parents one day." Amane said with a smile.
I scrunched up my nose, "well.. Um.. That's highly unlikely. He's never met them. He grew up in the mountains alone and was raised by the animals."
"Then who taught him how to wield a sword or use a breath?" Kagaya asked confused.
"He taught himself. He even created his own breath style, of all things." I said with a breathy laugh. "But he's a good guy."
Kagaya nodded after a moment, "You do seem rather fond of him."
"Actually.. It seems like he followed me here.." I said after a moment. "I feel his presence out by the edge of the property.. The fucking idiot.."
"Ooh! Bring him in!" Amane said excitedly before coughing into her fist. "Erm.. I mean if you want to.."
I chuckled lightly, "y..yeah sure. I'll be right back.. But just so you know.. He's more rough around the edges than I am."
"If you like him, then so will we!" Kagaya called out after me as i walked down the hall.
I made my way outside and to the edge of the wisteria, where Inosuke is arguing with a kakushi loudly. "What do you mean I'm not allowed past here?!"
"I mean you can go in without permission!" The kakushi shouted back angrily.
"I give him permission!" I said as I jogged in between the conflict.
The kakushi bowed her head immediately, "my sincerest apologies, (y/n)-Sama."
"You're all good!" I pat her back lightly as I pull Inosuke along with me. "Don't cause them trouble!" I scolded lightly. "And what are you doing here?"
He kicked a rock with a shrug, "I wanted to know where you were going. You always go to the cool places without me and its bumming me out."
"Aw.. I'm sorry, baby. I'm sorry you feel like that." I said with a light smile. "Well.. Now that you're here, my adoptive parents want to meet you."
He sputters audibly from behind his mask, "eh?! What?! I have to meet people?!" When I shot him a stern look, he calmed down. ".. Fine. Anything I need to know?"
"No breaking anything, or being disrespectful. And please be quiet. I have younger siblings and my guardian is really sick." I said with a sigh.
Inosuke nodded after a moment, "oh.. Okay.. How quiet do I have to be?"
"Quiter than you are now is ideal." I said lightly. "Anyways, lets do this."
I led him inside and he followed me quietly, before we reached Kagaya's room he grabbed onto my hand tightly, when I raise an eyebrow he huffs quietly, "I'm nervous. What do you want from me?"
"You're doimg great so far!" I teased before knocking lightly on the door. "Kagaya, Amane, this is Inosuke Hashibara."
Amane raised an eyebrow but smiled nonetheless, "pleasure to meet you."
"H..hi." He mumbled.
"So. I hear great things about you, boy." Kagaya said with an easy smile. "Forgive me for not being able to greet you properly."
"(Y/n) mentioned you were sick. I hope you feel better." Inosuke said bluntly.
"So.. Is there a face under that mask of yours, Hashibara-San?" Amane asked with curious eyes.
He nodded and looked to me for reassurance before removing his mask.
Amane's eyes widen noticeably, ".. Oh. You're angry about something?"
I glance over to see he's making a grotesque face, similar to Tanjirou's when he lies. "Inosuke!" I scolded.
He broke off into a nervous chuckle before he relaxes his face. "Sorry.. I've never met anyone's parents before.."
"You're doing just fine." Kagaya reassured. "I should be resting now, but I have to ask you something, boy. Do you care about my daughter here?"
"Yeah!" Inosuke barked. "I do care about her! A lot!"
"Good." He mused lightly before coughing into a handkerchief. "She's a very special girl, very strong. And she deserves nothing but the best, and she only chooses the best options. So if (y/n) chose to be with you, then I believe that you'll be good for her."
".. Thank you for approving of him, Kagaya.. It means the world to me." I smiled sadly at his condition.
He rested his hand on my cheek lightly, "I know. I'm just glad I lived long enough to see you so happy."
I hugged him tightly and then hugged Amane as well. ".. I love you guys.. And I'll see you soon."
I led Inosuke out of the building and once we made it away from the estate entirely, I hit the dirt and curled around myself with shaking shoulders.Inosuke's POV
(Y/n) suddenly collapsed and I felt a wave of sadness radiate off of her as she hit the floor.
"(Y/n)!" I shouted, crouching down next to her. "What happened?"
She sniffed and shook her head wildly, not looking at me at all.
I held her face up to me and wiped away her tears with my hands, "what's wrong?"
She looked at me for a moment before lunging at me, wrapping her arms around me, and burying her face into the crook of my neck. "I.. That was the last time I could see him.. He's going to die very soon.. And I can't do anything about it!"
I held onto her tightly, but I said nothing until her breathing slowed. ".. I don't know how to help you with this.. But lets get you back to the Butterfly place, and we can cuddle until you feel better, okay?"
She nodded after a second and I helped her climb onto my back before carrying her down the road with ease. ".. Thank you for meeting them, Inosuke.. You have no idea how much that meant to me."
I shrugged, "don't worry about it, babe. Like that sick guy said, you deserve the world. So. How did that meeting thing go?"
"Well.. We're going to have to go through this really intense training to awaken our marks." She grumbled quietly. "They make us stronger than usual. And don't worry you can participate too."
I jumped up into the air excitedly and ran the rest of the way to the Butterfly Estate, jumping right into the window of Tanjirou's room with a battle cry.
"Inosuke!! Why'd you break through the window?!" Tanjirou shouted loudly.Your POV
They started screaming, and I covered my ears, leaving the room.
"All of you shut up!" Genya shouted as I made my way back to my room.
What a day.. The next training session should begin within the week. I need to get my shit together. I have to participate as well. Lets just hope that my wounds have fully healed by then, and that I won't have to deal with anymore upper moons until my next life.
