"So... I understand why you said you come with me." Virgil's voice was quiet as he noticed they were nearing the town's border. "But I ah..." Roman paused as Virgil started to shake. Virgil froze up staring past the trees where he noticed people passed by. "I just... Roman? I'm scared." Roman whined with concern as Virgil quickly grabbed the crown he hadn't taken off before leaving, clutching it tightly in his hands as he back up.

"I know I said I would... but... the idea of doing it alone... I can't. I can't do it. I can't do it without you. He'll..." Virgil clammed up as he squeezed his eyes shut. Roman yipped softly nibbling at Virgil's pants weakly. "I know. I know you can't. They'd never understand. I would rather go all alone than you get hurt but... I just don't think I could face him." Roman's eyes went wide as Virgil carefully put the crown in his bag with a sigh. "Not that's I'd have much of choice if he sees me. I'll be fine."

"Go on home, Roman." Virgil froze up feeling Roman bite his shirt and tug lightly with a whine. "Ro?" Roman whimpered as he pointed off back towards the castle with this worried look in his eyes. "Roman, I said I'll be fine. I'll be safe and I'll for Patton. This is my town so... I know it well enough. Plus if I'm really scared... I'll uh... I'll go find Remus." Virgil could see as Roman's eyes went from the town to Virgil and back again almost as if trying to figure out something.

"Go home Ro. I don't want anything to happen to you and I know townsfolk get antsy when a wolf's to close to town. Please? I'll be ok. I promise." Roman huffed as he flopped to the ground with a near dejected look in his eyes. "Go home." Virgil repeated as he started for the tree line. "Promise me, Roman." Roman looked away making Virgil tense as he frowned. "Roman, promise me you won't let yourself get hurt."

Roman just huffed again as Virgil nodded and passed into town. The moment he walked through the trees the bright sun beat on him making him cringe. The loud sound of buggies and chatter clawed at him as he was highly used to the silence and stillness of the castle walls. He frowned as he glanced around and sighed. Home sweet home right?

Not in the slightest.

Roman jumped up the moment Virgil disappeared and it was like this instant rush of fear crawled up his spine. He whimpered slightly as he paced about. He knew he had to move but he didn't want to leave Virgil alone. Roman saw the fear in his love's eyes. The way he spoke. Roman knew there was someone in there Virgil did not want to run into. The person who was probably hurting him... The one Virgil refused to tell Roman about.

Roman whimpered again as he forced himself to move away from the main path digging himself a hole under a large rock. He pushed himself deep wincing slightly at the crampiness of it. He was a wolf after all. Wolves are pretty large creatures. He curled up leaving one ear up to take in all the sounds as he just waiting. Virgil was right in telling him to go home... but after the way Virgil reacted to seeing the town border, there was no way in hell Roman was going to leave him alone. If he can't go into town... He'll just wait for him outside of it.

Virgil quickly threw his hood up hoping to hide himself a little bit, not wanting to draw any attention to himself. He hugged his jacket close wishing he had his hoodie on instead but also very thankful he didn't as he knew people would instantly recognize him. It would be much harder the cloak Roman had given him.

Virgil's eyes dance around the scene as he walked into the market. He couldn't help but light up a bit. Sure it was crowded but... it was a good kind of crowded. People were happy. The scent of fresh-baked goods was heavenly. Virgil passed by this one baker with a gorgeous apple pie and Virgil beamed in awe. He couldn't help but wonder if Roman would like it. He quickly reached into his bag, pulling out a handmade pouch only to freeze at the sheer amount of just how much Roman had given him. He gulped down his anxiety as he pulled out a few silver coins and smiled at the baker.

"Would you like one, Son?" Virgil nodded as he pointed to the apple one and holding up a few coins. "Ah... Good choice. Let me box this up for you ok?" Virgil just beamed as he held the coins out for the baker to take. The baker passed the boxed pie over thanking Virgil for his purchase as Virgil nodded, happily walking off with a laugh. In all his time there, he had never baked anything for Roman. He wondered if Roman had ever had a pie. He must have as a kid but... There were a lot of things Virgil's had made him that he hadn't had known about either.

"Virgil?" Virgil froze up instantly, fear burning through him the moment he laid eyes on the very man he didn't want to see. His father stood there with a dark glare as he crossed his arms. "Where the fuck have you been?" Virgil took off instantly holding the pie tightly as he ran right out of the market. He didn't know if he was just running back home or somewhere but he never made it. He cried out as he fell back onto the ground dropping his pie as his father just groaned. "Stop making a scene Virgil. You're only causing problems."

Roman's ear twitched as he heard what sounded like Virgil. His head perked up with alertness as he carefully pushed his way out from under the rock. He sat there listening to the wind as his eyes narrowed until...

"NO!" Virgil yelled out as his father forced him to his feet. The younger's eyes darted about seeing the fairly empty street and he whimpered. Out of all the places to run, why to where there wasn't anyone?

"Did you just tell me no? Virgil, I asked you a damn question." Virgil cried as he backed up struggling to breathe. "Where the hell were you?"

"L-Locked up... Remember?" His father's eyes widened with anger as Virgil cowered away. "I was at the castle... after t-taking your place."

"That's no excuse. I expected you to be back here and doing your tasks." Virgil just crashed as his father growled as glared at him. "Now get your ass back home."

"No." Anxiety sparked through him the moment the words left him but he couldn't stop them from coming out. "No, I will not go back with you." His father flared as, without any warning, he flat out backhanding Virgil to the ground. Virgil fell crying out loudly as his wrist twisted the wrong way. He was still recovering after all. He whined badly in pain as he tried to get up only to whimper as his wrist gave out. There was no use. He wasn't getting out of this. He broke down completely just imagining Roman back at the castle waiting for him. Except... Roman wasn't at the castle...

And he sure as shit wasn't waiting anymore.
