DAPHNE WHITE REMEMBERED THE FIRST TIME SHE realized that being a woman in this world was hard... She was at the ripe age of twelve , her body becoming something more than she had initially bargained for. She remembered how her father had died and how hard her mother had took it. Months and months of hearing her mother cry late at night , years of watching the personality of Rose White slowly wither away with each passing day. Daphne had a hard time remembering her childhood— remembering her mom.
She remembered peaking around the door of the bathroom and watching as her mother pinched at her naked body in the mirror. Her hands roaming around her stomach in disgust— muttering shameful things to herself. Daphne watched in confusion , not understanding what was wrong. She had always found her mother beautiful— seeminly perfect. Surely , her mother wasn't insecure. Her body retained no fat for as long as Daphne was alive. Skinny , beautiful. So Daphne didn't understand what her mother was picking at— there wasn't anything there.
But what Daphne had come to learn was , that in her mother's mind there was something. She hid the hate beneath her cold scowl well , and if Daphne hadn't known better— she'd think Rose found herself without any imperfections. And it wasn't until she had found a crying girl in the bathroom at a party who was broken up with for not having enough curves , for being too skinny.
That was when Daphne realized that no matter what a woman looked like , cruel thoughts and words would always follow them. Because being a woman in a man's world was fucking hard— and being fat was even harder , because it was just another thing the men were able to pick at.
Daphne then knew that her mother didn't hate her for being bigger. She hated the world. She didn't want her daughter to step out into society thinking that everyone would love her , to be blinded by how harsh people would be and she thought that if Daphne could experience it at home , that it would be easier for her to build up a tolerance for other people's bullshit.
Surprisingly , Rose had good intentions. She just chose a terrible way to go about it.
