Tatum Sophia Cortes, you better be up"

I set down my mascara on the vanity in my room and swivel on my heel, grabbing my bike keys off of the hook by my door.

According to the clock on the dresser by my bed, school starts in 20 minutes, which meant I had 30 to get there, cheeky.

"Tatum Sop-"

"Say my full name again and you're paying house bills for the rest of the school year," I yell out, agitated that my mother is choosing now to try to parent.

She doesn't have that right.

"Tatum I told you I can pay for those bills, if you let me," she says once I made it down the stairs.

I straightened my leather jacket and ran a hand through my hair, annoyed by her statement.

I was aware she could pay for the damn bills, but after what she pulled, I wasn't about to let her have any job that could end in her failing affecting me or my siblings in anyway.

Whether that be paying the bills or not.

"Right, mom, until the next time you decide that you don't want to be a parent and leave it up to me to take care of everyone and everything," I snap, grabbing a apple, not even looking at her.

"Tatum-"

I hold up my hand, silencing her from talking any further.

"I have to get to school," I spoke, already walking out the front door.

I ring the door bell a couple times to alert Tessa it was time to walk Taylor to head-start then herself to middle school, then I walk through the yard to my bike, climbing on.

My motorcycle was actually my fathers, but I couldn't let it go.

Mother didn't want me to have it because she doesn't want to have anything that relates to my brother or father, but that was after her whole episode, so she doesn't really get to make that decision anymore.

And by episode I mean when my father left.

When my dad left after figuring out he wasn't my dad, my mother went into shock, she locked herself away, lost her job, and didn't pay for bills.

I was 14, just started high school, my older brother was 16, he was the glue of the family, trying to keep us together.

I mean sure, your husband just abandoned you, but so did our dad.

It wasn't Max's and I's job to take care of everyone, she was the parent, something I think she forgot as soon as she got that letter.

When I was 15, me and Max left our siblings with the neighbors, decided to take a night off from everything, went to a movie.
