The War That Saved My Life has become one of my favorite books, as well as its sequel, The War I Finally Won. I'm building a Little Library for my neighborhood park, and people have been donating books to my door. There was one particular title that I noticed.

I am so sorry the portrait photos are not transferring right. But to those of you who read it, sound familiar to the book I mentioned earlier? Abused, timid, child with a single mother, evacuates to the countryside in World War Two, is taken by someone who doesn't really want them at first, but their relationship begins to grow. Then a telegram arrives and the child has to return back to the abusive mother.
I will admit there are plenty of major differences, but I am still intrigued by the similarities.
Here's the publication info.

1981. So over 30 years since The War That Saved My Life was released. This definitely came first. I also plan to compare the 2's table of contents.

I'm not saying that it is a ripoff, nor would I make a fuss of it if it appears to be. So far, both are amazing books and the characters are easy to fall in love with. You should read....both. I'm sorry if my extensive use of italics is bothering anyone. But this investigation is proving to be entertaining. Stick with me and we'll find out more!
