We stepped back into the the courtyard, still buzzing from the battle and engrossed in conversation.

Asriel cleared his throat loudly. "So nobody wants lunch?"

Lunch was yeast rolls with hearty fish soup.

"Okay, I want to say the food here isn't great but that's totally a lie," I said, reaching for another roll.

Even Pelias, who had scoffed at the simple meals at first, now wolfed down them down with relish.

"Well battling three ancient dragons of death will work up an appetite," Odelyn said as she carefully peeled a plumfruit.

After lunch we headed to a small shaded glade for First Aid lessons with Carya, who still hissed at Odelyn when she saw her.

What was meant to be a peaceful training session turned into a heated contest with Fyn and Aester going head to head as if in some game show.

"Mandrake can be used to treat what but also causes what?" Carya asked, in a suprisingly high pitched voice.

"Can treat convulsions but causes vomiting!" Fyn shouted auickly, while Aester cursed.

"What can be used to relieve ravishing burns?"

"Voss leaves!" Aester blurted, high-fiving River as Fyn groaned.

"What oil can be used to treat tigret scratches?"

"Tea tree oil!" Fyn screamed.

"No ha! Only Aloeroot oil can treat tigret scratches," he said triumphantly, smiling widely at Fyn who quickly looked away. Aester seemed to remember himself and abruptly turned back to Carya for the next question.

"What do you do if you're bitten by a vampire elkling?"

They both froze.

"A vampire elkling?" Aester repeated.

"What's an elkling?" I heard River whisper to Ciel.

Carya stood before them smugly and long silent moments dragged by until someone finally spoke.

"Treat it like any puncture wound. The bites aren't lethal unless you're bitten on the neck. Allow it to bleed freely, clean it superficially and dress it with a bandage. You'll endure mild hallucinations but those can be reduced by faeberries. Unless you have a healer in which case they could just extract the poison."

Fyn's mouth dropped and Carya nodded, awed, as I craned my head to make sure I had heard right. And sure enough, there was Pelias, rolling his eyes as Syrion clapped him on the back.

"How did you even know what a vampire elkling was?" River shouted, as Pelias's glower darkened.

With that surprising display, Carya ended the session, grabbing onto Pelias's leg and smiling up happily as he tried to shake her off.
