We ate a small, sombre breakfast of dried scones and berries and set off, and after walking for what couldn't have been more than half an hour, we stumbled out of the forest and onto familiar scorched grey rock.

"You have got to be kidding me," I heard River exclaim as I groaned inwardly.

We had just stumbled right onto the Black Isle.

I reached for my sword as we continued to walk as quietly as we could, avoiding piles of bones and puddles of blood, the burnt land hard underneath our feet.

We had gotten half way over the plateau before I heard the first screech. I did not wait to see its owner, instead immediately breaking into a run, pounding over the cliff.

I didn't need to turn to see Khyrimin behind us. I could feel the electric heat that its flaming body exuded, sweat beading down my neck.

Still, I glanced back, the sight behind me spurring me further onwards. The Flamebender was twice the size it had been at Centrefold and ten times deadlier.

Its black eyes shone as it screeched and I flattened myself to the ground, narrowly avoiding a crackling line of flame.

Khyrimin flew before us, twisting up and hanging in the air. I knew it would be useless to even try and fight, wiping sweat off my brow as the dragon roared once more.

Twin shrieks joined Khyrimin's chorus as my heart dropped.

Ptherix and Syvis darted upwards swirling by its side.

The Triumvirate Draconis danced before my eyes, each one deadlier and more mesmerizing than we had previously thought.

They swirled, the air wooshing over their gleaming scales. And then they lunged.

My world spun as I ducked to avoid Syvis' curled claws. The dragon seemed to grin as it curled back again, heading straight for me. I thrust my sword, barely nicking it as arrows sunk into its white scales.

They did nothing, not even slow it down. It roared, showing its bloodstained teeth as it came for me once more. This time my sword caught it right above it's lips, staining its teeth a deeper red as they tore across my arm.

I could see the blood pouring from the gash as Syvis reared upwards but I couldn't feel anything.

I staggered forward, distracted by Makeda who was on top of Ptherix. The Bloodmonger squirmed and dived as she pushed her daggers into it's red scales, before it threw her off, straight at me.

She crashed into my injured arm and I screamed, the pain rushing in at once, blackening the edges of my vision and sending me to my knees.

Syvis charged again, knocking Syrion into a pile of bones and nearly crushing Odelyn as she shot arrows at it, uselessly.
