Shoto had declared a long time ago that he would have a hard time understanding people.
Women, specifically.
However, he had gotten used to his wife's personality and behaviour that he could read her expressions in an instant.
Until this moment.
If Momo was on her period, she would sleep all day long during her first few days or watch television dramas that would let her cry.
This time, she had been showing dissimilar patterns of behaviour that was making Shoto feel worse as a husband.
On one Tuesday evening, during Shoto's off day, Momo had returned back from the Yaoyorozu company quite early because they gave her permission. Apparently, she wasn't acting like herself, even at work.
As Shoto was finishing his bowl of soba while watching the news channel regarding his pro-hero friends, the door was unlocked and a pasty-faced Momo walked inside.
She was dragging her feet as if living was the last thing she wanted to do.
Shoto stood up, wanting to give her a kiss.
Blatantly, she held up her hand and proclaimed, "Please go away from me."
He was dejected and confused, but he listened to her nonetheless. Shoto followed her until she was in their bedroom, wondering what she would do.
She hopped on her bed, laid on her stomach with her face pasted on the sheets.
Suddenly, she began bawling her eyes out.
"I hate my life! I absolutely, definitely, completely, totally, utterly hate my life!" she muffled into the mattress, which had gotten Shoto worried. He didn't know what to do when his wife was acting like this.
He took a seat near her. "Momo, what happened at work?"
She shook her head, not wanting to tell. Shoto continued, "You can confide in me."
"You'll laugh," she excused herself and continued screaming into the comforter.
"I won't laugh."
"I don't trust you."
"Momo...you know I'm bad with people. You gotta tell me what's wrong," he said, equally making her feel guilty for being secretive.
Her shoulders stopped moving. "You sure you won't laugh?"
"I don't laugh much. If it's funny, i'll try not to smile."
"Shoto!" she scolded him, slapping a light hand on his back.
"I'm kidding. I promise I won't."
She took a deep breath. "The truth is..."
Shoto was getting curious. Momo wasn't crying anymore and she looked calm enough when she was about to tell Shoto her secret. She hesitated, but Shoto tried to encourage her. "The truth is?"
"The store ran out of my favourite cake!" Momo shouted and began making weeping noises again.
Shoto got more perplexed by Momo's words. Not only she was not a fan of cakes, but if she really wanted one, she could make it using her Quirk. Shoto was sweating out of anxiety.
"Can we get it tomorrow instead?"
"No!" Momo wailed. "I want the cake now!"
"But you don't even like cakes," he said bluntly.
The moment Shoto uttered those words, Momo turned silent. Shoto knew that the situation would get bad.
"Shoto is mean! My husband is mean!" she complained, which had gotten Shoto more nervous.
