I'M SORRY BUT HELLO??? WHAT'S EVEN HIS BUSINESS BEING THIS GORGEOUS?

At this time of the year, college students were preparing for the end-of-term exams. Some students locked themselves in their rooms, while others were almost living in the library.

"I'll buy another coffee. Need anything?" Jungkook's voice snapped Y/n out of her thoughts.

She averted her eyes from the laptop, taking a look at her friend. He was already standing, ready to order.

"A cappuccino would be nice."

The two of them spent a lot of time studying together when Y/n wasn't with Jihyo. Though they didn't have a lot of classes in common, the numerous tutoring sessions led them to believe they'd study better with each other. For a change of scenery, Jungkook suggested that they should study in a small coffee shop. Soon, it became a habit.

Five minutes later, Jungkook came back with the drinks. He placed the cup of cappuccino in front of Y/n, making sure it wouldn't spill on her stuff.

"It's been two hours... We should take a break," he sat across from the girl.

The latter sighed in relief, thinking she could use one. Carefully, she took a sip of the hot liquid, savoring its taste as if it was her last.

"Are you planning to visit your parents before the exams?" Y/n suddenly questioned the boy.

Seemingly embarrassed, he scratched the back of his neck. "I'd rather not."

As usual, Y/n didn't insist. She could tell he wanted to drop the topic whenever it came to his parents.

"What about you?" he asked.

Y/n chuckled. "I don't have enough money to buy a plane ticket for (y/country of residence). It'd be a waste of time anyway, considering I only have five days left."

Jungkook nodded as he realized how little he knew of Y/n. They shared a lot of conversations, but none of them dealt with their private lives apart from their friends. That day, the man was curious. He was dying to know more about his fellow student.

"Do you miss your family?"

The (h/c)-haired girl smiled to herself as the memories of her parents and siblings flowed. "I do." Anyone could tell by the way her eyes shone at the mention of her family. "From what you've told me when we first met, your parents are a bit strict when it comes to education." Jungkook cocked an eyebrow, amazed that she recalled that. He might have sugarcoated the truth by saying they were a bit strict though; they were actually horrible. "Well, my parents are pretty similar to yours, although I don't know how strict they are."

"They're pretty serious about status and reputation." He rolled his eyes, causing the girl to smile apologetically.

"So, mine aren't that serious, but still. They used to be tough on me until I entered college. Everything is better now because they trust me and are satisfied with whatever I've become."

The black-haired male was glad to hear that. Y/n seemed to have caring and supportive parents, whereas his were obsessed with good reputation and money. In order to raise his brother and him as they pleased, they would restrain their children from feeling joy, amusement, and love. In other words, feelings they thought of as superfluous. He was relieved that Y/n didn't have to go through that.

"Weren't they scared to let you study abroad?"

"God, you should've seen my mother!" the girl exclaimed. "She cried her eyes out the day I left, but then she posted pictures of herself wearing MY clothes the next day! My brother told me she raided my wardrobe." Jungkook couldn't help but laugh. Her mother didn't seem bad. Oh, how he would've loved having such a funny mom! "Do you have siblings?"

He nodded. "I have an older brother. He lives with his wife and kids, so I'm the only one left at home." It gives an excuse for Mother and Father to persecute me, he thought.

"Are you two close?"

This time, he couldn't help but smile. "We became close when he left home." For Jeon Geonwu, leaving home felt like being released from years of prison. Knowing he wouldn't have to bear his parents' torments anymore had a positive effect on him. Thus, the disciplined and withdrawn boy turned into a responsible and cheerful man. "What about you? You mentioned a brother."

"Right, I have three big brothers."

"T–three?" Jungkook almost choked on his saliva, definitely unprepared for Y/n's revelation. "Are they nice?"

She smirked. "They are. Moderately protective, but kind."

Jungkook imagined three men standing in front of her, preventing him from getting close to the girl. The thought of it was quite scary, but he wouldn't admit it. Why did he even care anyway?

For the next hour, Y/n and Jungkook were getting to know each other. Despite the massive cultural differences, each of them couldn't help but appreciate the person they were talking to. Y/n loved how easygoing, entertaining, and comprehensive Jungkook was, whereas he appreciated the kindness, the honesty, and the liveliness she showed.

Wandering in the streets, Hana had finally gathered enough courage to leave her room after days of studying despite the unbearable sorrow. Her heart was like an empty void. Every beat was a deadly reminder of how lonely and abandoned she felt. She sure liked it better when her feelings were buried deep inside, as if she couldn't actually feel anything. The complications of loving someone were far worse than what she had imagined.

As she kept on walking in the crowded streets, Hana didn't pay attention to her surroundings until a muscular body knocked against hers. Slowly losing balance, she was quickly held up by the same person. When she looked up, she met a pair of black eyes expressing nothing but guilt and concern. In a sigh, Hana stood back on her feet and dusted her coat.

"Pardon me, I wasn't looking."

She shrugged, looking away as she couldn't bear the stare of a stranger. In a few seconds, he disappeared; allowing Hana to have a full view of the coffee shop standing in front of her. She glanced at the inside, unprepared for what she was about to discover. Soon, the sharp pain in her heart mixed with the rush of helplessness became unbearable to the point that she felt like throwing up. Hana took a few steps back, eyes glued to Y/n's laughing face, unaware of the sweet look Jungkook was addressing her. They were sitting next to each other, seemingly amused by whatever the boy showed on his phone.

Hana fought the urge to storm inside and confront them, mostly because there was no use in it. Jungkook owed her nothing, neither did Y/n. Though the latter happened to be one of her closest friends, she didn't know how hard Hana had fallen for the guy.

She kept trying to repress the growing jealousy that could turn into hate toward her friend. She didn't want to lose Y/n because of a boy, but it was hard to ignore the fact that she seemed to be going along well with Jungkook. She was hurt, and it was dangerous.

For now, she had chosen to stick to her reason. Quietly, she walked away with a sinking heart.
