POV: Mumbo

"GRIAN!"

I will admit, it hurt when he had said those words to me. But when I watched in fear as blood arose from the spot where Grian was dragged under, all my emotions swarmed around my head. I fumbled with my rockets, struggling to light them. They were drenched in rain water, meaning they wouldn't light. When I realized this, I knew I had to swim. I ran to the edge of the water, diving in. It was freezing, the waves shoving me around, trying to prevent me from saving the small hermits. My arms flailed in the water, as I tried to propel myself forward. I couldn't see through the murky water, as my eyes stung from the salty ocean water. In the distance, I could see a small red speck slowly falling, blood surrounding them.

I swam as fast as I could, my head going foggy. I shook the feeling, my muscles burning as I swam towards Grian. Drowned were starting to take notice of me, a few scratching through my suit. I shook them off, diving down deeper to try and get Grian before the drowned do. The pressure was starting to get to me, my body in burning pain. I reached out, trying to grab Grian's ankle. My breath was escaping me, and I wouldn't be able to return to the surface if I didn't hurry. I pushed through, purely with the adrenaline that had been pumping through me. I grabbed Grian's ankle, pulling him up to the surface. I wasn't sure if it was because my arms were tired, but Grian became heavy and heavy, slightly dragging me down. I looked back, a drowned clawing into Grian's neck. I dove down, tackling the drowned off Grian. I kicked it in the face, using the rotting zombie to push myself towards the surface. Everything was fading away faster and faster. The only thing I could see was a large black shadow above me. I held on tightly to Grian, trying my hardest to stay conscious. I pushed through the harsh waves, gasping for breath. I grabbed Grian's limp body, pushing him up and into his boat. I used my last bit of strength, pulling myself into the boat and next to Grian's body.

"I'm sorry Grian.."

I coughed, water ejecting itself from my lungs. Rain poured down on my face, the cold water not waking me up. I just shut my eyes, relaxing my tired body as the drowned rocked our boat. I tried my very best, but the drowned were still going to kill us. I looked over to Grian, my vision beginning to fade. The last thing I saw was Grian's chest slowly rise before falling. I didn't fail. I looked back at the sky, smiling at the rain drops on my face.

"I kept my promise."
