Chapter 16

1 YEAR LATER
A lot had happened in the previous year; I fell in love with a werewolf that might someday kill me if fate doesn’t intervene, found out my dad’s white and he’s a vampire while at it, met my mom who happens to be an amazing witch and I passed my matric with flying colours that being distinctions only and so did Imi. I was going to be studying Biomedical Technology at Wits and Imi was going to be studying Computer Science. Said she wanted to be like her dad. We were going to be flatmates, we got a 3-bedroom flat… it was the only one available and there was already someone living in it. She was a cool chick, she was studying medicine first year and her name was Amina.
Ahlume was graduating in a few weeks’ time. The long distance was not easy but we made it work I guess, it was my birthday in 4 days’ time and he was graduating a month from it, we never broke up and he never brought it up again.
Leaving home for Joburg was a challenge because granny and Ahlume didn’t feel comfortable with me studying 6 hours away from home and on top of that I had no one to protect me and the dreams hadn’t stopped. Mom tried to mix up concoctions to help but it was as though they made the dreams worse because then I could barely sleep and I’d have days where I had dreams of Ahlume changing into a monster which I couldn’t recognise but for some reason the monster he was never scared me at all and then at times I’d have dreams of me being captured by Ahlume’s grandmother had just got out of class when my phone rang. I told my friends I would catch up with them. It was Ahlume
“Ace”
“hey. How’s school?” he asked
“I actually just got out of class. And you, how are you?” I asked
“I’m good. I miss you” he said sounding like he was pouting
I giggled like a little kid “I miss you too. How’s the internship?”
He had scored an internship at his father’s company but that’s not where he wanted to work.
He breathed out “Its hectic. What time are you coming out?”
“at 4. My classes end at either 4 or 5 every day of the week” I said dragging my feet sounding bored
“damn mahn! Are you studying to become SA’s president?” he asked
I chuckled “very funny Adams. You never heard me complain when you came out late”
“don’t even lie. You came into the picture when the work had decreased” he said
I raised an eyebrow “and what about the projects?”
“whatever. So what are you doing after class?”
I shrugged “I don’t know. go home, take a long bath and sleep and wake up and do my assignments”
“shame mahn. Any chance you might make it for my graduation?”
I smiled like an idiot “told you I wouldn’t miss it for the world”
“I hope not. Go to your friends now. We’ll talk later yeah”
I smiled “ok babe. Bye”
“I love you ok!” he assured with a serious tone
“I love you more”
I caught up with my friends. They were in the cafeteria eating. Ashlene handed me my food
“thank you babe, how much do I owe you again?” I asked digging in
“you’ll buy next time. your boyfriend was asking about you before you came in” she said
There’s this guy named Keegan, we shared two or three classes but we were doing different streams. He has been begging me to go out with him but for his safety I rejected him. he was very good looking but nothing compared to my guy! I don’t think there’s a guy who was as good as my Ace.
“just go out with the guy once so he can stop bothering you!” Kia said, she was one of my friends and she was from Nigeria but came to study in SA when she turned 17
I shook my head “no. I don’t want to give him false hope” I said stuffing food in my mouth
“look he’s a good guy, besides, your boyfriend won’t know” Calvin said, he was dating Kendra
“stop being a bad influence to the poor kid Cal” Phila defended, he was gay and he was a free spirit.
“thank you babe!” I said brushing his cheek
Cal rolled his eyes. We all laughed at him.
My squad was my classmates. It was Ashlene, Kia, Calvin and Phila. We became friends after we worked on an assignment together and we aced it and we’ve never part since. Ahlume and I argued when he saw a picture of all of us on my status, going off about how he wasn’t comfortable with me befriending boys… it was a long as argument but he cooled off when he met them and found out that Calvin was actually dating Kendra and that Phila was gay.
Phila smiled like a child about to get his favourite toy “so it’s your birthday next week Tuesday, what are we doing to celebrate?”
“nothing. We writing a test Phila” I said
“we can do a pre party at my flat. Just something small and go out clubbing” Calvin suggested
I shot him a look “you must have a death wish. Me? in a club?” I asked
Ash placed her hand on mine “come on Lisa, you have to live just this once”
I shook my head “guys no.”
“we going out tonight and that’s that!” Kia said
I sighed and ate my food while they discussed the plans for this pre birthday celebration. I just sat there chatting to Imi on WhatsApp telling her about what they were planning and she was more than in.
“well Imi says count her in” I said pressing my phone
They all got excited and continued discussing until it was time to go back to class and on the way they were talking about Ash’s new guy. Ash was dating this other older guy. He wasn’t that old but he was older than her, he was more like her blesser and Phila himself had his own blesser while Kia was engaged to be married, she was in an arranged marriage and Cal was a regular white boy from a rich family.
Ahlume parked in front of a bnb in Pretoria. I didn’t even know he was coming to Joburg. He surprised me and I wont lie I was surprised to see him and also excited to see him too. Life was great for those little minutes.
We ordered room service and then went to take a shower together.
“so what were you and your friends going to do?” he asked pouring shower gel on a sponge
“they wanted us to go drinking” I said
“so you drink now?” He said washing my hair looking at me
“no I don’t. they wanted me to” I defended
I could feel his look piercing right through to my soul “were you going to?” he asked
“maybe. Maybe not. I don’t know:” I said scrubbing my hair as water fell on it like rain drops
He nodded. We washed and then dried our bodies and walked out with towels around our bodies. When we got to our room our food had been delivered, just then my phone rang
“mom” I answered
“hey baby. How are you?”
I smiled “I’m ok mom and how are you?”
“I am good. I miss you”
I chuckled “I miss you too”
“funny cause you barely call me” she said with an accent making me laugh “how is school?”
“school is boring but I’m coping” I said
“that’s good to hear. I expect distinctions only.” She said making us both chuckle
“of cause, I wouldn’t give anything less. How are you guys? How are things between you and dad?” I asked
She chuckled “we good. We making it work”
“A witch and a vampire” I said squinting my eyes as though she could see me
She laughed and so did I “who would have thought? But we good. When are you coming back anyway? It’s your birthday next week”
I shrugged “I might just come back Friday then”
She sighed “baby I had a dream”
I took a deep breath in “do I want to know what that dream was about?”
“I’m worried about you. I’m scared that it might come true” she said
“mom”
“I had this dream where you were in a different place and you weren’t happy. You weren’t with Ahlume. You were miserable. It was as though you were cursed” she said with so much concern in her voice as though it was something that was actually happening
“but I’m not cursed. You protecting me right?” I asked with a raised eyebrow
“yes, but I can only do so much. Anelisa please take care of yourself there” she said with panic in her voice
“mom don’t worry. It was probably just a dream” I assured feeling a little unsure
“you my daughter.” She let out a heavy “I felt the pain you were feeling Anelisa. That dream was real” she said sounding really concerned
“so how can we prevent it from happening?” I asked cause this was really bothering her
“I don’t know. I’m still trying to find a way” she said
“ok then. I will be on the lookout. I love you ok” I reminded her
“I love you too and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do” I chuckled and so did she “I know where you are. Just use protection ok” she said
“MOM!” I scolded
“bye and say hi to Ace for me” she said laughing
I laughed “bye mom”
I ended the call laughing. Ace was wearing his boxers sitting on the couch eating. I watched him eating thinking about what that mouth could do and how huge he was for me.
Would it even fit?
“stop drooling” he snapped
I was startled by him “I’m not” I said swallowing hard
“I’ve been talking to you for the past 5 minutes” he said
I giggling and walked over to the couch “so what were you saying?”
“to come and eat. What’s got you all smiles anyway?” he asked looking at me waiting for an answer looking all kinds of yummy
“mom. she knows where we are and she said to greet you by the way” I said throwing my phone on the couch
“how did she know?” he asked with furrowed eyebrows
“she just knows babe. She said we should use a condom” I said with a sour face
He chuckled and so did I. God his laughter was heavenly, lazy as it was but it was very sexy.
“your mom is..” he said thinking of a word
“forward!” I said and we both laughed
He smiled naughtily “she’s given us permission”
“haha forget it!” I said stuffing myself with food
“of cause you’d say that” he said with a lazy chuckle
I shrugged and continued eating. My boyfriend was something else, in a good way. When we were done we slept and the next morning we woke up and showered and then chilled in the room having breakfast.
I was wearing last night’s t-shirt while making the bed. When I was done I turned to him
He shook his head “no!”
I looked at myself and then back up at him confused “what?”
“get dressed, we going out” he said not looking at me
“where?”
He shrugged his shoulders pressing his phone “we’ll see as we go!”
“but I don’t want to leave. This place is so beautiful and the bed is so comfy” I said rolling my head back
“I know but if we stay here, indoors all day with you looking like that. I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep my hands to myself” I laughed. He gave me that warm charming smile of his that told me he had something to add “you care free, your hair is hanging loose, you not worried about anything. You happy” he said with a smile
I smiled and touched my lips. I was happy to be here with him, but I was worried about the dream mom had. I had really missed him and part of me wanted to sleep with him but also I was scared that the way he felt about me would suddenly change and he would become a different person from the one I know.
Losing your virginity is a big deal, I grew up with my grandmother and she always instilled it in me that I ought to lose my virginity to my husband and that’s what I wanted to do but this world we live in today has made being a virgin something that’s overrated. That if you not having sex then you boring and there’s nothing to talk to you about. I didn’t want to lose it because of the pressure from my peers. I’ve had some of my friends tell me that if I didn’t give it to him then he was going to get it elsewhere.
“you frowning. What’s wrong?” He said touching my chin making me look at him “talk to me”
“why are you still with me?” I asked with frustration
“what kind of question is that?” he asked with furrowed eyebrows
I shrugged “you’re a man with needs.” I said innocently looking down playing with my hands “You used to having sex but now you with someone who doesn’t even give you as much as a hand job”
He sighed “if I wanted a hand job I’d give one myself Anelisa. Where the hell is this coming from anyway?” I shrugged, he wasn’t quite shouting but he was angry and I didn’t want to look at it “Anelisa I have no idea how many times I need to tell you that I didn’t date you because I wanted to have sex with you. I didn’t let myself fall in love with for the first time so that I could have a sex slave. No Anelisa! I’m with you because I love you and I want to be with you more than I want to have sex with you. yeah sure I would love for us to be intimate but everything has its own time and I won’t force you if you not ready” I kept quiet looking down. he made me look up at him and he wiped my tears on my cheeks “now who filled your head with all of this nonsense?” he asked calmly
