Chapter 4

I wake up with a start. I don't know what woke me up so violently but I'm struggling to catch my breath. I remember the rain instantly, probably because my body feels damp and cold. I don't know how long I as out, but I'm definitely shivering a bit. I start to gradually open my eyes, and it's not long before light quickly pores through and I squint. Thank Thor I can see this time. Finally something good.
My eyes focus on the leaves above me and the sunlight shining through. I'm surrounded by trees. The rain has stopped but I'm still wearing damp clothes under my armor. I sit up against the tree and wince in pain. I'm afraid to look down but know I must.
I slowly angle my head down and open my eyes. My armor isn't ripped up too much so I can't see the injury, but there's blood all down my leg starting from under the knee. I'm covered in mud. I check my prosthetic and am relieved to see it not damaged. I start taking of my armor from the waist down and stifle my screams from the pain. It feels like hours have gone by when I finally get the armor off of my right leg. There's a really bad gushing wound below the knee. It's really messed up. What's that white thing.. Oh my gods it's bone.
I gag and look away quickly.
Breathe Hiccup come on you need to fix it.
I look back at the injury to find my leg all black and purple below the knee. I've never seen anything like it.
I need to bandage it up, but it looks pretty nasty so I should probably clean it first. I look around me for anything that might have caught some rain water in it. It either rained for a long time or poured for a few hours because everything around me is wet, and there isn't an inch of dry land anywhere. I don't even know how the rain managed to reach me under this tree, but it did. And this leg injury? I'm positive that it's going to get infected if it hasn't already.
"There you are."
I flinch at the sound of my voice, because the words I were trying to say didn't come out all that audible.
There's something green sitting a few feet to my left that I'm hoping has some sitting water in it. So the journey begins, and I flip onto my side, careful not to move my right leg. I lean on my elbows and drag myself backwards, struggling to find a grip in the soft mud. My leg is burning, and I don't think my face has relaxed from its grimace for a few minutes now. I reach behind me and grab the green thing which now appears to be a leaf the size of my hand. Once I've got the leaf in my possession, I sigh in relief, seeing the decent pool of water sitting in the leaf. Took another minute, but now I'm leaning up against the tree with my right leg stretched in front of me. I'm surprised and thankful that there isn't a lot of mud in the gash, and seeing that small part of my bone again makes me shiver.
After pouring every drop of the leaf's water onto the gash and cleaning it as much as I can for now, I rip off a part of my shirt and tie it tightly around the wound while shouting incoherent syllables. It's unfortunate that I can't stitch it up right now, but the wrap will have to do. When that's done I rest back against the tree and wipe the sweat from my brow. I wait until my breathing slows to a steadier pace, and the dizziness fades.
I need something to help set my leg. I look around and grab the closest tree branch that has fallen from the storm. Taking out my knife on the side of my left leg, I start smoothing it out, cutting all the leaves and extra sticks off. I smooth it down as much as possible. I make two two-feet stilts out of the branch that I smoothed down and look around for vines.
Vines vines vines.... Where-
I look up and find the trunk of the tree I'm under is covered in thick vines.
Hey what a coincidence.
I reach up and yank down hard, ripping off a handful. I place the stilts on either side of my leg from my ankle to above my knee. I use the vines to tie the stilts to my leg tightly. I attempt to put some of the armor back on my leg but can't get all of it back on because my leg is too swollen. Okay, now I need something to help me walk with this bum leg. I spot two huge branches to my left a few yards away and lean my head back, realizing that I have to move again. I take a few deep breathes and open my eyes.
"Here we go," I grunt out loud.
Painfully I drag myself over to the branches, wincing every single inch. I grab them, crawl back to the previous tree, and pull out my knife to start carving the huge branches into smooth canes as tall as me. I cut them so they reach right below my armpits and tie the extra branch on top of the canes with vines so they each make a t-shape. Then I add a small handle a little below the top to hold onto. I set them up against the tree and realize how dry my mouth is.
I could really use some water right now.
My eyes scan around and spot a smaller leaf to my right that contains a small amount of water from the downpour. Another coincidence.
I reach for it and carefully pick it up, swallowing the water in one huge gulp. As I enjoy the few minutes of relief, I glance down at the leaf in my hands and recognize it as an Asclepius oak leaf. Asclepius is said to be the God of medicine and healing, and, when ground up with a few added ingredients, the leaves of an Asclepius tree makes an incredible healing ointment. A healing ointment that could save me from many uncomfortable days. My focus is directed to a new sensation of something sliding down the side of my face. I reach up to touch a throbbing spot on my head and wince. As I bring down my hand I see dark fresh blood on my fingertips. I raise the huge leaf up to the wound on my head to try to stop the bleeding and sit there for a while. Closing my eyes, I try to rest, but this nagging word in the back of my head won't go away. I can't seem to remember it though, so I ignore it. Instead I try to remember the mixture Gothi taught me how to make in case of emergencies. I know there's Asclepius leaves in it. There was also something white... Oh! She said I need a few snowdrop flower petals. Then there was a wet substance I was supposed to add to it. My head begins to pound and I wince. All this thinking is too much for my brain at the moment. I must have a concussion. Okay, think Hiccup, what was it...
...
...
Neat, nrite, nite-
night! Night fury saliva!! That's what it was! Wait, how in the world am I supposed-

"Toothless!" I gasp out loud. I remember! Oh my gods Toothless! I need to find him. The memory of the fall rushes back to me. I clearly see the Lightning exploding through his wing in my mind. I know his wing is badly injured. Where could he be?
I slowly lean up against the tree as I gradually stand up. I reach for the canes and put my wait on them. They measure perfectly. I start to swing forward as I keep my right leg up and use my left prosthetic to walk. This is actually working! Now I need to find Toothless. "Toothless!" I shout into the trees. I'm coming bud. Hold on, just hold on.

A/n
So I completely made up the Asclepius tree and that whole healing ointment thing. It is a story after all. Not everything can be accurate.
Then again this is a fanfic about a viking and his flying dragon...
Yep, accurate.
Anyways have a great day, or night if your still reading and it's like 1 in the morning. I totally understand you if you are. I feel ya dude.
Thanks for reading xD
