Chapter 5- She's Back

A few days later:

nick is fast asleep at ellie's bedside.
ellie: good morning
nick: *half asleep* huh what? oh good morning
ellie: you had a good night sleep didn't you ?
nick: nice to know your sarcasm hasn't lost its taste. i mean you didn't sleep in a chair
ellie smiles. she genuinely thought she was going to die; if she didn't tell him now something similar could happen
ellie: i need to tell you something. i-
nick phones began to ring
nick: sorry *sheepishly smiles* hello? torres.
i understand sir
i need to be back at the office. they're going to fill us in on this undercover op.
ellie: they're still going ahead with it?
nick: yeah but it's been pushed back until your ready.
ellie: so the minute i get out of hospital?
nick: i guess so! what was it you wanted to tell me?
ellie: doesn't matter. you need to go and i need my breakfast burrito.
nick knew what ellie was going to say and it was so frustrating. it was almost as if the universe didn't want them to say it but only time will tell.

back at the office

nick: yes sir you wanted me to report back
vance: yes, we've decided to push back this undercover operation because we need Bishop back on this case. so therefore you'll be assigned a new case until Bishop gets better
nick: yes sir but are ellie and i still doing this case together?
vance: yes you are.
nick: thank you sir
vance: your forensics are with Miss Hines now
nick leaves frustrated with the current situation

*1 month later*
nick: She's back! *smiles and hugs ellie*
Ellie: *hugs back* you know, it's good to be back
Nick: It's good. it's been pretty boring without you here
ellie: aww thanks nick *smiles*
Kasie comes with a bunch of brownies
Kasie: welcome back bishop!! here have some brownies i made. it's my nana's secret recipe
ellie: *tries one* oh my god kasie these are legendary
nick: let me have one
Kasie: *slaps his hand away* get your hands of my brownies
nick: nice to know i can have some.
Director Vance enters
Vance: bishop, torres. a word
nick and ellie look at each other beyond confused and go to the directors office
vance: your undercover assignment begins next week. bishop i know you've just recovered but we need this op to begin
nick: where do we begin?
vance: you begin by backstopping your identities anything that could ever lead to you. social media's, websites everything. you will be erased from the ncis database temporarily.
ellie: wait so if something happens you won't take responsibility?
vance: unfortunately not.
ellie: ok nice to know you have our backs.
vance: i'm sorry but it's protocol.
ellie: ok anything else?
vance: you guys are gonna have to pull some all nighters to get this case back into your heads.
nick: ok sir thank you

they both leave and go to the conference room to regroup.

nick: ellie do you want to go get the forensics and i'll get the rest of the case files.
ellie: that didn't go too well last time but ok
ellie leaves to go get the forensics from Kasie
