I wanted to kiss him. The urge was so strong, stronger than any other urge to kiss a guy I’ve ever had. And yet I couldn’t.
He has a girlfriend, I reminded myself wistfully. Yet Danny had come here, he had rid me of Jason, and he had seen me shirtless. He was only fueling my feelings for him, though there’s no way he could return them.
"Look, Cassie, I'm sorry if I've done anything wrong." His eyes were so apologetic, it almost hurt to look at him. Yet I couldn't stop looking at him. He was just too adorable.
"You haven't done anything wrong." I shook my head to confirm my words. "Why would you think you had?"
"Well, you just seemed upset."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." He nodded. "So we're good?"
"Yeah." I said, gazing into his eyes. He stared back. Neither of us faltered.
“Um, so what’d you guys do with Jason?” I asked, staring at the ground. From the corner of my eye, Danny looked disappointed. But he couldn’t be. He was probably relieved.
“Paul and I have a police friend who took him away.” Danny explained.
“Oh, ok.” We sat in silence for awhile, neither of us knowing what to do or say.
“Look, Cassie-” Danny began, but he was interrupted by Whitney suddenly bursting into the room.
“Oh my gosh you’re missing the best episode of Gossip Girl, like, ever!” She exclaimed, grabbing my arm and pulling me out of the room. I gave Danny the most apologetic look I could manage, but truthfully, I was glad to have an excuse to leave.
If only he didn’t have a girlfriend.
“Bye!” Paul called out from the front of the apartment, waving his arm around like a lunatic. Danny was standing next to him, though he didn’t appear nearly as happy to be leaving.
“Bye!” Whitney waved back ecstatically. Once they’d left, she turned to me, her face beet red.
“That Paul guy’s real cute, don’t you think?” She asked, turning on Gossip Girl and cuddling next to me. It was adorable that she already had a crush on Paul. I suppose there was no better way to meet someone than being rescued.
“Yeah.” I smiled weakly. “He sure is.”
“But?”
“Danny’s cuter.” I smiled, and she laughed, poking my side. We continued to sit there, watching Gossip Girl, until Whitney fell back asleep. This time, though, I stayed next to her, too afraid that Jason would somehow manage to return. Despite the fact that he was with the cops, I knew I wouldn’t feel safe for a few days.
Suddenly, my text tone went off.
Danny: Hey Cas :)
I considered whether or not it would be a good idea to text him back. Though I knew that he had a girlfriend, he was the one who’d texted me first. So it was okay, right?
Me: Hey
Danny: Whoa you’re still up? That was supposed to be a good morning text ha cx
Me: Yeah lol I can’t sleep :/
Danny: Me neither :(
Me: What’s up?
